    GhostBSD

Eric Turgeon has announced the availability of the first beta build of GhostBSD 4.0, a FreeBSD-based operating system with MATE as the preferred desktop environment: "The first beta build of the 4.0-RELEASE release cycle is available on SourceForge for the amd64 and i386 architecture
Mate might be the preferred kind but of course there's other DE available too.

Has anyone ever tried this member of the BSD family. As I may have mentioned once before, the BSD family of distros is probably the most secure OS known to seal-kind human-kind.
    Scratch that. Seal-kind!!

Here's a little bit of the change log

Changes and problems fixed between 4.0-ALPHA3 and 4.0-BETA1 include:

Switch from cpio to rsync for copying file on the installation.
The kernel is now writable on the live DVD which solves graphic card kernel loading for Intel and ATI.
Updated FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE to FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE-p3.
and the known issues for those of you wanting to try it out on a virtual machine instead:

    Known issues:

Network with "Live Image" does not work in Virtualbox or VMware Workstation / Player - workaround is to install the OS.
GBI allow users to summit partition without root(/) partition.
GhostBSD 4.0 BETA 1 now available | GhostBSD

and of course the old distrowatch link
