It's ironic, isn't it? We didn 't have access to when the internet was free of ads, and had quality sites. Now we have everything and it BLOWS!!

seems it blew back then (too), which makes sense as it was in its infancy - now add in human corruption and it doesn't look good in the future

what can be stated with certainty though, is that humanity gets the kind of internet it deserves

It's very hard to break 20 yeard old friendship relationships. I just broke one of these today, and it feels so werid, like splitting up family.
Security wise, this is very bad because we all know each other very much, our strong points and weaknesses, as well as personal data (full name, nicknames, addresses, known whereabouts)..

My thinking is that every person wears a mask, a mask which hides their true self from the rest of the world. At some point in every relationship, regardless of what that relationship may be, and given enough time you will see the real side of a person. When I see a person's real intentions, then I choose whether to continue the relationship or end it immediately. My experience with this is I've found only enemies, and/or users. Some people have a keen eye for this, and can see through a mask relatively easy. But that's not me.
It took me 20 years to spot this guy, and he's been dragging me down ever since.

this mask you mentioned is only the surface layer (worn consciously), there can be several active ones (the one you use at work, the one at home and Master Razor are three examples) and they can change over time
underneath there is another layer (worn subconsciously), which shows when a person loses his calm/composure or when acting without inhibitions (children, extroverts, 'in vino veritas' etc.) or in long lasting relationships - it forms/changes over one's lifetime

together they are known as the 'false ego', so they do not represent 'the real side' or 'the true self' of a person, they are materialistic in quality

the true Self is (much) more difficult to find (dis-cover), since you need certain qualifications for that (like leading a pure and saintly life, a positive karmic balance, which dissolves materialistic false-hoods covering the true Self), this Self is spiritual and eternal, it does not change under any circumstances, it is who you really are

the thing that is dragging you down is not other people, it is your own false ego, which controls your life/decisions/desires - your false ego is your worst enemy

I wish I could write something nice about this, but since a few years ago I don't bother attaching to anyone anymore since most people either disappeared once they got what they wanted, disappeared after they failed to get what they wanted, or simply disappeared (which hurts even more than the other two).

This doesn't mean I hate or shun anyone new, I just make myself no illusions about the nature or length of whatever relationship we may have. It's very unfortunate, but also the least bad choice I see
