What a prick what's there to be so stingy and cavalier about public money imagine if it were properly utilised how many children could have a better education and would change their lives for the better just make me sad and mad
on such persons. They can at the very least use the interest on the principal amount of funds.

Hope you anon can make a positive difference despite the challenges and eat some yummy cookies as well

I feel the same way. There's a reason for everything, and everyone does what they do because they genuinely believe it's the right course of action, but... I'm having a hard time extrapolating the reasoning behind his inaction

Anyway, word has it he'll be retiring this year, so let's see what that change of regime brings.

There was a downtime yesterday, our provider rebooted the server without warning.

Yes... after fixing the power supply, which I just found out got fried in the process. And it's a very expensive one[1]. I'll see if an Electronics teacher at my school can repair it, and soak it and shell out more money if he can't. Oh, well, can't have it all.

For anyone curious, those charas arranged this way are called grawlixes. Most cartoons and comic books had them.

I have studied tarot cards, fengshui and crystal healing. Finished learning the last piece today, palm reading.
The more I know, i feel more tired. I'm sleeping right now, one eyed open.

It was one of the better ones during that ran during the last two seasons. If you're looking on picking something up that's brand new, it's pretty good. It's light and full of humor and the characters are pretty awesome, all with their very own backstory. The story is interesting enough that you can watch the whole series in a weekend. (which I did)

I spent most of the day playing with my new free laptop

    The good:
    • Better processor with proper x64 support. Boots and runs much faster.
    • 1366x768 screen, ACPI-based brightness control, can be flipped up to 180°. The last one is going to be great for reading stuff.
    • 4 GB of memory (and no "2.98 GB usable" crap, all of it is available).
    • Bluetooth and USB 3.0 (my first computer to have the latter).
    • Rotating webcam which shoots and films at 720p resolution.

    The bad:
    • Touchpad buttons are much harder, it feels like I'm pressing against a brick.
    • The battery cannot be detached.
    • No CPU fan. Only passive cooling is provided.
    • I cannot get the ability of turning Wi-Fi off to work with Intel's OSD (but am thinking of a potential fix already).

    a few possibilities:
    - hoarding in order to snatch it all and run for the border
    - he is expecting something from you in return
    - he does not like (some of) you
    - he does not understand the necessity
    - the request was inadequate in some way
    - he is simply not ready to release any funds at this point

information overload, you're accumulating data but you cannot sufficiently understand the data, nor have you tried applying/testing it in practice (to get that missing understanding), nor are you relaxed & positive while dealing with the material (a lot of guessing here )

Perhaps a rainy day fund for the super-duper retiree salary he'll be earning?

What do you think he may expect in return? As for not liking some of us (not my particular case as we have a good relationship, but it may be true for others), the school's priorities should be above any personal quarrel.

    - he does not understand the necessity
I feel really tempted to say "of course he doesn't". Last year, I wrote a simple HTML-based help and self-service portal so that all students can unlock their laptops unassisted. It never took off because we needed a $20 wireless NIC to bridge the wired network to the Intel server, which he wouldn't buy us...

    but... but...
    But what?

On a sidenote, I was thinking two days ago that some people leave an undeletable mark on us.

I had this math teacher on third grade of primary school. He was very strict and didn't give marks "just for trying" as others often do (I would later find out he also taught at college, which may be the reason for this). I'd sometimes get extra homework or end up counting tiny dots in the walls' paint as a punishment for causing trouble. But he was a great teacher, and his classes were engaging.

On his last day at the school, he brought a bag full of toys, and gave one to each of us. I remember he called me by my last name and asked if I liked robots, to which I said yes and ended up receiving the following:

It's one of the characters from Toy Story; if you drag it backwards on a plain surface, it'll run and spin its head. I still have it to this day, 14 years later.

My literature teacher from third and fifth year of high school was another. I don't exactly remember how our quarrels started, but halfway through the former, she already had the habit of picking on me during class and debating about random stuff. I saw the whole ordeal as a sort of competition, and didn't fall behind... I'd totally mock her if she mispronounced an English word or got something wrong about computers, and then refuse to disclose the correct answer. "Find out yourself if you're so interested"

In my fifth and final year, she was back with a vengeance. I remember how during one of our regular flame wars, she said I live for a computer screen and hate human beings (and there's some truth to that).

Ultimately, I actually respected her a lot, because she was clearly not afraid to speak her mind. And I think the feeling went both ways. Or at least, that's the only reason I can think of for getting a 9 on her last exam: it was about two plays I had barely read, so I "invented" all the answers from the bits of pieces I could remember. And I very much doubt I got 90% of them right...

She retired that year, and it was when I found myself angry to hear the news that I realized what all that really meant. The school brought this hot college chick as a replacement, but things were no longer the same.

Anyway, I think fifty years from now, I'll still remember both of them.

What people like that have you had in your lives?

change the definition of all from: 'all that i want at some point in time' (personal expectations, theory) to 'all that i do get at some point in time' (practical outcome, real/realistic outcome), while understanding or accepting that whatever you do get in life is actually what you really need, regardless of whether you knew/expected/desired it or not

so to rephrase the original quote: 'oh, well, guess i didn't need it all' (at that particular point in time, as proven by the outcome)
