    Two things that the image doesn't mention:

    Anything heavy enough made a good goalpost, but backpacks and clothing (rolled into an irregular shape) were most often used.

    If you somehow managed to kick the football into an unreachable lawn or rooftop, everyone would scream obscenities at you, and then you'd have to gather courage to ring the owner's doorbell and ask to have it back. One of us once kicked it from my school's 3rd floor walled yard (fuck the rules) into the chasm surrounding it... and still managed to retrieve it the following day, after finding out where it landed!

    Also known as a "soft limitation" Leave us without adult supervision for about 200 nanoseconds and we'd get the game rolling no matter what. Back in the fifth grade, a window got smashed that way. Turns out none of us did it

    I'm looking at my router settings and I notice there's two frequencies for my WiFi, 2.4GHz & 5GHz. Does higher mean it has better range? Any downside?

    this should explain all

    The primary difference between the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies is range as the 2.4GHz frequency is able to reach farther than the 5GHz frequency. This is a result of the basic characteristics that waves attenuate much faster at higher frequencies. So if you are more concerned with the coverage, you should select 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz.

    The second difference is the number of devices on the frequencies. 2.4GHz suffers more interference than 5GHz.

    The older 11g standard only uses the 2.4GHz frequency, majority of the world is on it. 2.4 GHz has fewer channel options with only three of them non-overlapping, while 5GHz has 23 non-overlapping channels.
    A lot of other devices are also on the 2.4 GHz frequencies, the biggest offenders are microwaves and cordless phones. These devices add noise to the medium that can further decrease the speed of wireless networks.

    In both aspects, choosing to deploy on the 5GHz frequency is the much better option as you have more channels to use to isolate yourself from other networks and there are far fewer interference sources.

    But the radar and military frequency is also 5GHz, so 5GHz wireless may also have some interference, and many countries require that wireless devices working on 5GHz should support DFS(Dynamic Frequency Selection) and TPC(Transmitting Power Control).

    Summary:

    5GHz has a shorter range compared with 2.4GHz;
    The 2.4GHz frequency is way more crowded than 5GHz, devices on 2.4GHz suffer much more interference than the ones on 5GHz;
    Fewer devices are capable of using the 5GHz channel than the 2.4GHz channel.

    If there is too much interference around and your clients support 5GHz, it’s recommended to use 5GHz wireless network, otherwise you’d better select 2.4GHz.

    Wireless computer network equipment typically uses radio signals in either a 2.4 GHz range or a 5 GHz range.

    The GHz range of a wireless radio is only partially related to the speed of a wireless network. For example, 802.11a wireless operates at 5GHz and 802.11g at 2.4GHz, but both support the same maximum data rate of 54 Mbps. However, newer 802.11n and 802.11ac routers have the capability of simultaneous dual-band operation on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz ranges, allowing clients to connect on different bands for more flexibility and less interference. 802.11ac specifically expands on that, running entirely in the 5GHz band.

    Advantages of 5GHz:
    The 5GHz band is less likely to be congested. The 2.4GHz frequency range is much more prone to interference, as it is commonly used by other wireless networks in the area, as well as cordless phones, garage door openers and other home appliances and consumer products. The 5GHz band can also offer much higher throughput (using the right technology) with the same channel width. It has 23 non-overlapping channels vs. only 3 in the 2.4 GHz band. 802.11ac in the 5GHz band implements many newer technologies, such as, MU-MIMO, beamforming, etc.

    Disadvantages of 5GHz:
    In general, the higher the frequency of a wireless signal, the shorter its range. Thus, 2.4GHz networks cover a substantially larger range than 5GHz wireless networks. In particular, the higher frequency wireless signals of 5GHz networks do not penetrate solid objects nearly as well as 2.4GHz signals, limiting their reach inside buildings with solid walls and floors. Recent 802.11ac devices, however, are able to mitigate some of this disatvantage by using beamforming.

    The Bottom Line:
    5GHz and 2.4GHz are simply different frequencies, each with its advantages and disadvantages. To get the best of both worlds, some recent routers have the capability for dual-band operation in both ranges simultaneously. 5GHz offers higher throughput at a shorter distance, while 2.4GHz offers increased coverage and higher solid object penetration. Beamforming and other newer technologies allow 802.11ac to achieve cleaner signals with 5GHz in many situations where the 2.4GHz spectrum is congested. The migration to wider adoption of 5GHz will probably continue with the shift to the higher throughput 802.11ac.

    Hi folks.

    Apparently, sb-i has a brief history on Youtube. The date indicates this was posted about a year ago.

    Yesterday I suddenly remembered being a kid and watching an episode of Pinky and the Brain where they were like melocotón this, melocotón that - and I thought "what the hell is a melocotón!?". I would later find out that in my part of South America we called it durazno (peach). The same stuff happens with American vs. British English sometimes
