the initial scenes already showcased some strangely average cgi further obscured by dark scenes, cheap fluorescent effects, a teen mutant that escaped from some disney movie and hollywood deep thoughts on destiny/fate, like:

- all species destined to destroy themselves? the dinosaurs didn't destroy themselves and neither would humans (even power-crazy humans want to live & prosper, even a king needs a kingdom, thus they necessarily need help/participation from many people to accomplish these goals)
- fate can be avoided not only by coincidence! (part of the mainstream scientific definition of evolution) but also by fast coincidence! (which is scientifically defined as an extremely slow process) and by speeding it up via technology (which is anything but coincidence!), like the making of sentinels which change the fate of mutants

then we get some matrix worship (drilling, sentinels/machines - even though no mutant is actually a machine) and a few lame fights (except for the teleportation effects) which are concluded by the worst part of the movie: the plot explanation, which they really fumble:

- in order to change the future events, they send a mutant (only his current consciousness, not the body) into the past (which somehow exists at the same time as the future from where he is sent!) a few days before the events occur so that he can warn their younger selves about the events - which effectively changes the past, while the future is still active (!) and this future cannot even happen if the past is already being actively changed by the traveler (!) - even if they took the parallel universe idea, they would simply change that other young universe, not the old one (where the mutants die) - also, for some reason they can do this traveling thing only once?
- so if the consciousness lands into the younger body, where does the younger consciousness go?
- somehow the old & the new consciousness of the same person (prof. x) can communicate by using a 3rd old stretched consciousness (old wolverine) as a bridge (still no idea where the 4th young non-stretched wolverine consciousness went!)
- only strong travelers may take such a trip, the older ones wouldn't make it because their mind would snap from stretching so far in the past - but have no fear, wolverine can even heal his mind (!) so he takes the trip instead of prof. x
- what if they traveled a little further and got rid of the mutant files before tyrion got his hands on them in the first place?

so, essentially, nothing has changed:
- time-travel is still impossible (traveling down the memory lane excluded)
- parallel cloned universes are not only impossible but also pointless
- you can't separate consciousness from the physical body without the body ceasing to function (aka death), since that is a key reason for the existence of a body
- but you can make movies based on such illogical fantasies, often dreamed-up or at least entertained by famous mainstream scientists (yes, stephen h., looking at you )


- they make mystique smart (figuring out tyrion's plans) but not really (searching for tyrion across the globe as if he is some unreachable figure & offing him in front of powerful people, not to mention doing it while 'dressed' as a mutant, twice! making her ability to transform pointless)
- oh, and it was her first (killing), after which she crossed to the other side of the duality (good/evil), as if that event somehow solidifies her transition from raven to mystique, as if thats something from where there is no turning back
- somehow magneto is at full power (prison time without any practice doesn't hurt much) and prof. x didn't even use his, due to the drugs, yet no addict can detoxify as fast as x does and pick up the powers as if nothing happened
- somehow mutants are constantly shown as victims, they get drafted for the war, then unmasked and detained, awaiting transport (no one can detain them when they land?) - yet they seem to have strong powers, perfectly capable of avoiding any of these scenarios, not to mention: they are not even hiding their external/bodily difference from ordinary humans!
- a cringe-worthy scene of the very young prof. x feeding poor/hungry/thieving mystique with a promise, or the one where he screams how magneto abandoned him & took away his girlfriend (this emo stuff was way ahead of its time)
- remember SF movies from the early 70's (lets say '2001 a space odyssey' comes close) - supposedly roughly at the same time there are: completely plastic guns, 100 floors below the pentagoon, super-modern cerebro (except for the gauges/instruments), 8 prototype sentinels (before they even caught mystique) made entirely out of a space age polymer (the apollo ones?)
- occasional scenes as if made for a tv-movie (young prof. x & magneto on the plane), 70's camera views were just awful
- the sentinels can smell mutant genes from afar, so does tyrion's portable sniffer
- generals prefer to believe some 'tall' american researcher & his silly gadgets than their own colleagues
- their meeting is obviously top secret (at the peace summit) but somehow the mutants know where it is held and the most convenient part is: the unmasked mutants & their fights are all being filmed from many cameras & news crews all around them, the very thing they wanted to avoid!
- our supposedly powerful mutants can barely find, let alone terminate the evasive tyrion - i mean, he is a small person, but not that small
- and the biggest joke of all: tyrion, the war profiteer, wants a long-lasting peace, which is why he makes advanced weapons, so any opponents of the peace may be peacefully dispatched, meaning they end up resting in peace
- magneto is somehow able to control the sentinel software, magnetic hax0r?
- pointless attempts to influence mystique, yet it is obvious that there will inevitably be numerous occasions where mutants & humans get into conflicts, deadly ones as well (just recall the hot-headed wolverine or the numerous careless others), their coexistence will always be strained
- they ridiculed having only 3 channels/networks, however those were so good at doing their news-reporting jobs that the mutants use these news as their main source of information!
- x cannot believe that raven is really going to become the (evil) mystique, that this is what she really is - the simple truth is: she is (subjectively) what she believes (she is), ie. everyone lives their lives according to what they believe they are
- military people & vietnam veterans in the audience are somehow saluting the future, the sentinel robots (get it?) even though they never witnessed them in action (even then they would more likely end up worried/terrified about such robotic monstrosities existing in the first place)
- in order to catch the president, 1 medium-sized stadium and 1 can opener is needed
- notice that mutants never really bothered to find a solution to the sentinel problem (shutting down their production would suffice to limit their numbers) and were obviously capable of defeating many of them (as seen in the final battle)
- they make magneto smart (his plans) but not really (the public speech that fuels the fire of conflict, the carelessness from out of nowhere, jfk failure, mystique failures, final failure)
- also, mystique had an excellent chance to finally deal with tyrion while everyone's attention was focused on magneto, but no, she had to play the president (yes, yes, hollywood says every male in usa wants to either be the president or a space monkey)


and we get other nonsensical political digressions as well:
- usa soldiers in vietnam did not have adequate equipment to win the war!
- jfk was shot by one person, the incompetent oswald!
- magneto was interrupted while trying to get the bullet out of jfk, thus the impossible trajectory! - this one was innovative though


characters:

wolverine - the most interesting character, best lines, jackman in his element, owning his role
old prof. x - lack of dialogue (speechless smiles), though the narration was done adequately albeit subdued
young prof. x - bizarre hippie/emo acting that was just pointless and obviously unlike any real prof. in his post-college days, not to mention the drug usage angle, other than that it was a fine performance
old magneto - awkward stiffness (his age?) and lack of dialogue, probably also to boost the younger stars as ready to take over the, what was it again, baton?
young magneto - not bad at all, but not crazy at all either
raven/mystique - stone-faced/cgi-ed, a far cry from the older, seductive version
storm - she levitates... then she falls from the walls... underused character with a new? hairdo
beast - occasionally interesting, good interaction with wolverine
kitty - noobish, stutters (and then both old x & magneto look at her like: wtf?)
tyrion - miscast, completely unbelievable character and there is the voice/stature mismatch
quicksilver - 2nd most interesting character, best action scene in slo-mo (only this action scene was any good)
other young members - average
other old members - guess the director/scriptwriter took lessons from peter jackson on that one
sentinels - mostly silly creatures, super-adaptive skills would require atomic-level fusion/fission energy to transform/transmute their structure 1 atom at a time in real time - yes, that means no teleporters in the future either

but seriously, its not that exciting - sure, there are outbursts of laughter, giggling, smiling, eye-rolling, face-palming, head-shaking, commenting and the like, but most of this stuff is mental, sometimes vocalized or monologued, some of it assembled on different occasions, some arrives after the viewing, some is given extra thought (the essential stuff), etc. - reading it in the form of a post that tries to make it somewhat coherent seems like the most adequate experience (like a movie after editing)
