    Cinnarch

Most of you have probably heard of this distro. It's Arch Linux using the Cinnamon environment. Just thought that I'd tell about it.

    About

The purpose of Cinnarch is to provide a modern, elegant and powerful operating system based on one of the best Linux distributions out there, Arch Linux, and featuring the popular Cinnamon desktop environment.

The first Cinnarch iso was uploaded on 07/05/2012 to his SourceForge site and a message was published in the Arch Linux forums to let them know about the project.

Cinnarch is easy to use and very customizable
It is open source and based on the fast and lightweight Arch Linux
Cinnarch uses the Arch Linux official repos and AUR (user-submitted packages), along with his own software repositories
As with other GNU/Linux systems, Cinnarch is virtually free of viruses and spyware

Installed this like a week or so.The installer is a a fork of the now defunct Arch Installation Framework with some removed options but works really well and does the job.
If you choose the minimal iso test the internet connection before starting the installation.Just do a quick:
    Code:
    ping -c 3 www.google.com
if it says unknown host then
    Code:
    dhcpcd
Also be sure to take advantage of the AUR repository.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR_Helpers
I personally use yaourt for managing AUR packages.
    Some advice:
-check archwiki and the arch forums if you have a problem with something.
-check the mailing list or the arch front page occasionally. Sometimes things like this require your attention.https://www.archlinux.org/news/updat...17-2-together/
    Don't:
-reset the cinnamon interface (it will reset to the default Linux Mint feel and setup not the default Cinnarch one)

So, this basically is Arch with the Cinnamon AUR package installed by default, or is there anything more to it?

    Yup. SBfreak is correct.

Cinnarch uses the Arch Linux official repos and AUR (user-submitted packages), along with his own software repositories
That's from their 'About' Page. I'm going to run this via USB, try it out for awhile and if I like it (I like Cinnammon anyways ), just might install it.

SBfreak, did you find any connectivity issues while you were using the minimal .iso for install??
And thanks for the advice too from your post.

Oh, ya. Forgot. Did you find that there were any proprietary wireless drivers installed by default in this distro??

No problems whatsoever other than running dhcpcd before starting the installer.
Don't panic if the refreshing of the package database takes too long.
Also if you're going to run cinnarch via usb use this tutorial. Unetbootin didn't work for me. http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=23267

I installed it on my pc so I didn't really care about wireless at the time.
What proprietary wireless driver do you usually install on other distros?

Broadcom on laptop and ralink on desktop. Broadcom is usually installed by default in most distro's I've tried out. Ralink, I think so. I know for sure it comes with Ubuntu and maybe even on some of the other distro's.

Broadcom shouldn't cause you any trouble. Not sure about Ralink.

Finally have decided to install on desktop and Cinnarch didn't seem to have much of a problem finding the Ralink driver. Thank goodness. I think this OS is kind of for the advanced user though. The CLI install was fairly straight forward I noticed. But I noticed that the OS doesn't give you the convenience of root from the nav bar like it does in Mint.
I know its still do-able using

    su
    ...but just say'in.

Yes. Sorry. That's what I meant. I don't know what I was thinking but I think I may have been thinking Fedora when I mentioned that. LOL.
I know, it's sudo. I think I just had a blond moment or something.

Got a few OS on both Desktop and this laptop I purchased mid-last year or so. What I find I like the most about Linux OS is just their all-around versatility/customizability without having to sacrifice a bunch of ram. At least that is what I am experiencing.

Speaking for myself only, I'm just about near giving up Windows entirely. I barely use the thing any more. Though I might just keep it on the lappy just for the hell of it.
