Back in late November of last year, I signed up at a couple of job search sites and sent a bunch of CVs so that I could make some money this summer, instead of just posting in forums and playing videogames. Some companies replied back, and one of them actually went all the way through and employed me. As the title suggests, I started right today. Working hours are from 9am to 6pm with a one-hour lunch break at one o'clock.
The actual job is having to repair printers and notebooks, sometimes desktop systems. Not exactly the creme-de-la-creme of IT... but it's something, and okay for an entry-level job, I think. And by reading the assigned material and tinkering with hardware I can learn new things, which is always nice.
The perks:
- there's an Internet connection, naturally. Heavily firewalled, but I will work on that.
- my co-workers seem cool, the atmosphere is nice. They even let you play music.
- FREE COFFEE MACHINE!!!!!!111111 :-D
- weekends are my days off.
Today there wasn't much for me to do, since I was completely new. They took me around the place and told me what I was supposed to do. Then I was given an installable HP training course to learn the fundamentals of laser printing - how the different internal components on the printer and cartridges work. (Yay, studying!)
Oh, and here are a few pictures of the office:
