[Q] HDD The Clicks of Death...does the refrigerator / freezer thing work?

    My Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 640GB ST3640323AS DIED.
It is 5 year warranty series (not the faulty firmware version), and I was always keeping important data on it because I believed it won't die till the warranty. I have warranty till 06.2013. I need data from disk (it was system disk).

I was wondering can anyone confirm that refrigerator / freezer thing work? I have Usb2Sata cable and I can run it while having it in freezer to avoid condensation because of which people are saying you can run it for only 15-20 min after removing it from freezer.

    Help needed...

... 15-20 min after removing it from freezer
All drives must breathe. The fact that it is sealed shut and no dust or other particles enter the drive that doesn't mean that air won't going in and out of it.
There is a small hole on each drive. Very tiny and it is the only way air can get in.
When you put it in a freezer, condensation happens. And it is not evaporated in 15 minutes.

This what logic dictates. However, foresnics use this kind of technique to for RAM chips. In order to recovery any bit of memory left.
    AFAIK, HDDs aren't the same.

On each manufacturer site there technical specifications regarding the required temperature for an errorless operation. Keeping it in a freezer doesn't correspond to any of them...

Freezer works, before you put it in, put in into a bowl of Salt or Rice and cover it Tight. Will suck out all moisture. Then put it with cables attached into a Ziplock bag, seal it with duct tape and put it into the freezer.
Take it out after a few hours, plug it on without topening the bag. Be fast, laying a towel over the drive might give you more time.
