Well, this is too low. I thought, that 512 Kbps was the minimum everywhere in India!

Look at the bright side. Your connection speed is nearly symmetrical.

    Me 3.

With the amount you were charged for staying online half an hour on dial-up here, you could go 14 hours to an Internet cafe, which had a lightning fast 256Kbit connection. The only ways to take data from said cafe to your house were either a 1.44 MB floppy, or burning it to 650 MB CDs, which were expensive. Of course, back then 650MB was a lot, making it an acceptable tradeoff.

We were good friends with the owner, we'd talk a lot about stuff and sometimes he'd let me stay in the PCs a bit more. Then they closed temporarily and tried to come back later, but had to shut down for good due to lack of customers. I've lost contact since then, which is a shame.

u remind me of me similar story somewhat.. i started using internet coz i liked a theme song of a anime very much that's when i learned stuff about internet..i wanted to downloadit.. it took 7 days for me to find it coz for mr internet was email n ym only.. that's it... after that i started downloading songs .. the cafe guy had 256 kbps connection ..i used to burn alot of cds.. he never charged me for burning discs coz i used tto buy cds from him after that// after few years e went abroad and i got my own dial up connection.. unlimited dial up for 4 dollar(200 rs) per month downlloading speed was good but surfing sucked big time somewhat similar with your story

Ahi! that reminds me of the good old days where I was on dialup, and I would go to internet cafes for better speeds. And where most of my time online was spend on mIRC and ICQ, rather than on websites. The most painful thing is actually your ping, 313 is horrible!

I spent most of my time in chatrooms, Yahoo's games and creating a personal homepage which never got anywhere

    Chatrooms as in IRC?
I used to spend all my nights on mIRC. When I had dial-up I would only log on at night because it was cheaper. I remember meeting all kinds of crazy people.
