    Anonymous OS: Hacker-Betriebssystem gestartet

I went to the anonymous-os.tumblr.com website and I read a bit about it. More than likely the presentation that this OS is trojan filled could be a propaganda ploy as well as setting up fake OS that resemble the genuine OS from these guys. But then again, it's a war of words so you know that the first casualty of war is usually the truth. Who tells the truth, who obscures or exaggerates the truth, who makes the truth, and who is telling the real truth.

IMHO, it's anyone's guess. YOu just can't tell.

Anyways a tidbit from Yahoo! News:

Anonymous-OS is here, but you probably shouldn't download it
Digital TrendsBy Andy Boxall | Digital Trends – Thu, Mar 15, 2012

A computer operating system named Anonymous-OS has been made available for download, and although originally believed to be the work of the hactivist group with which the OS shares its name, its legitimacy and raison d’être has since been called into question.

The OS itself has been built on Ubuntu and uses Mate desktop, and comes complete with a wide range of pre-installed apps one would rarely download under normal circumstances. For example, you’ll get the password cracker John the Ripper, Ddosim, a tool for simulating distributed denial of service attacks, and Sql Poison, which searches websites for security vulnerabilities.

    .....
Of course there is much more to read at the link posted below. I only decided to post a small amount of what is available. The direct link is here:

True. They'd probably go for something secure like OpenBSD and customize it so it fits their needs but as a distribution which pays full attention to a specific theme, those are pretty good.

If anyone is further interested in this topic, the following comes from DistroWatch.com.

Anonymous-OS, Mythbuntu to lengthen release cycle, "Linux is everywhere"

News about Anonymous-OS, an Ubuntu-based distribution supposedly released by the Anonymous movement, started circulating around the Internet early last week. Tom's Hardware was one of the many websites reporting about the new hacker's distro: "Anonymous has released an operating system based on Ubuntu 11.10 called Anonymous-OS." Upon closer investigation it turned out that the freely available live DVD was not build by Anonymous and, worse, it was reportedly riddled with malware: "Anonymous this week warned against downloading the new Anonymous OS, suggesting it was full of malware that could harm your system and steal your personal information." SourceForge, the popular open-source software repository where the DVD images were originally hosted, reacted by closing down the project's page and removing the files from its servers: "By taking an intentionally misleading name, this project has attempted to capitalize on the press surrounding a well-known movement in order to push downloads of a project that is less than a week old. We have therefore decided to take this download offline and suspend this project until we have more information." The project itself has denied any wrongdoing: "If any user believes that Anonymous-OS 'is wrapped in trojans' or 'backdoored by any law enforcement company or hacker' please don't download it! But don't mislead the world that Linux is dangerous and has trojans!" Even though SourceForge no longer provides the DVD images, it is still available from other sources, including Linux Tracker.
