Human trafficking takes place just about everywhere where you can find desperate people employing desperate means for supporting their own families or themselves. Families in Thailand for example will sell their 9 year old girl for sex to some sex-tourist b/c the dad or mom need money to support their family. Of course sex trafficking also involves pretty ruthless people. Both men and women partake in this business. for example, some smart woman, in collusion with a friend or some others, will con some other unknowing woman into believing that she can make some real 'big money'. doing some job. I will elaborate further on downwards this post later on.
Sex trafficking takes place not just in East Asia like Thailand, but also in some surprising places that I have become aware of like Belize and Brazil. Child sex trafficking also takes place in other 3rd world places like India, Pakistan. Other places include Ukraine and even Moldavia. I have heard of some of the former Russian states being involved in trafficking so this comes as no surprise to learn this.
If you don't understand the problems behind sex trafficking then give me an opportunity to educate you on how horrendous it is. Sex trafficking is pretty much global in nature. The victims come from virtually all developing countries and are trafficked into or even through virtually both developing and developed countries. Borders don't do much. They just exist to define some line in the sand. If you are Caucasian, don't for a moment think that Caucasians are execpt in some abstract way from being trafficked and that only Asians or poor Aboriginals are instead. The exploitation is not dependent on nationality, race or religion.
Most of the people that are trafficked into the sex industry are women. To a lesser extent boys are too. Are you aware that some of these 'micro-massage' parlours in North America and perhaps even Europe have people that came from some Asian or South American country to be trafficked?? Here's an example. Some poor South American girl will be trafficked into Canada or the States under the title of “exotic dancer” . Her visa might show it and then, to her surprise she'll be forced into prostitution. Here's another example. Suppose you live in Europe. So now you have some unfortunate Romanian child who will be used as a sex slave in that very lucrative and depraved child pornography business. Pornography, as you know has reached such economic heights in growth of which has become unlimited since the advent of the Internet. Sounds delicious, doesn't it??
Now here's where it gets down right nasty for most of us who live in the Western Hemisphere. If you live in North America or Europe or Australia for example, you live in a very wealthy part of the world. The big thing is that it is some of the wealthy countries through their military, businessmen, ex-expatriates, tourists, and internet pornography subscribers who pay for the use of a sex slave that keeps this industry extremely profitable for traffickers. Don't feel jealous if your not from the West.
It is not just Westerners who subscribe to the sex trafficking industry. It is also some government and police corruption that also has blame for this. Mostly in under-developed countries, they play a large role in the perpetuation of that sex slave industry. They do it with blind-eyes that are turned toward open and active brothels and they do accept payoffs if you understand my meaning in that.
Going back to Western countries that support this behavior, suppose some Asian girl comes to Italy or Great Britain. She is initially told that through some hiring agency in her own country that she can make a better life elsewhere. After all her documentation is in order, she is whisked off to her new country. Little does she know that her passport is going to be taken away. She will be both physically and sexually abused and forced into prostitution in some country where she neither speaks the language nor has any friends in it. This poor young girl or woman has no relatives or any means of support there. Basically, she finds out that she is forced to service 8-15 clients a day and won't receive any pay. Rather, all the money she makes is going to be used to pay off her “debt” to the trafficker and brothel owners for transportation, food, lodging and so on and so.
After some period of time has come and gone, she will probably be resold to some other brothel owner. That other brothel owner could be in the same country or in another country. Basically, the cycle continues all over again. Nice, eh??
Anyways, to continue the woman might acquire HIV/AIDS, and pass it on to her clients and their wives, all around the world. That's right. ...all around the world.
In the end the trafficked woman has a greater chance than most of dying early, and is certain to live a horrible existence in whatever short years she has left on her calender. Even if she is eventually is rescued and repatriated to her own country and community,more than likely she will be ostracized as a result of her involvement in prostitution.
