I tried to run the leaked RC inside a VM but it refused to install. Anyone had any luck? Windows 7 managed to run fine under the same configuration.

You mean MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.RC1.ISO-LZ0? Time to press Shift+Del then.

    I had limited success,
the developer preview works SUPER-slow in VirtualBox, (but Aero works! and probably that's why it's slow).

    Settings: 4CPUs,Intel VT-x, 1.5GB RAM, 256MB Video Memory, 3D Acceleration Enabled,2D Enabled,
the guest additions install fine but they don't seem to 'work'.

Super slow: opening the start screen takes 4 seconds, trying something in VS11 Beta = minutes of slow motion.

and that's on what I call my 'best' PC: 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700

I will wait for official support by VirtualBox and the new announced Feb public beta..

Microsoft changed strategy. The only leaked release you're going to see is the RTM.The next build released to the public will be the customer preview and it will arrive mid/end February.
Metro pretty much sucks,a lot of strange folders in Roaming,no useful metro apps just games and candy ass, firefox nightly builds don't render properly.
The only way I see myself running windows 8 is with metro disabled. And yes this is another grumpy unsatisfied lunix user complaining.

But hey sbfreak,it's just a developer preview.
Well, that may be but windows 7 leaked builds were awesome.

Then I'm surprised I got this far.

    Okay, let's see:
    1) Your ISO looks like the x86 which supposedly requires less RAM than 1.5GB, so I think you need to raise that to 1GB or try 780MB (because it looks like the error message couldn't be even displayed due to lack of RAM).

2)To run Windows 8, I think (and according to some websites that you need to have vt-x supported by your cpu)
In order to run a Windows 8 VM, your CPU must have built-in hardware-assisted virtualization technology. For Intel this is VT-x and AMD it’s called AMD-V. To test your CPU, download the Microsoft Virtualization Detection Tool and scan your system.
    3) I think you can try raising video memory a bit (and enable 3D)

    4) Try VMWare! (8+(or 4+ for the free VMWare player) because iirc Vmware 7.0 doesn't even boot WDP)

    Anyway:
    Code:

EDIT: the system requirements link is probably for non-virtual installations

    EDIT2:

Yes, that's the one I'm talking about.

It sucks but I think we'll get used to it (though after W8 SP1 or 2), myself I don't like it as well..

lol, means 'using 7 in 8'

And yes this is another grumpy unsatisfied lunix user complaining.
    Gnome 3 sucks

    @anon,

    I'm sure you've seen it:

but I want to make sure (because re-downloading 3GB is a a lot ... for me and I want to save you from doing that )
->the reqs for raw/real install is less, maybe you can burn it on a DVD and slap it on your desktop, although it's too much work to mess up an installation to try W8.

    Shift+Del it is
...and 3GB of hard disk were freed

I saw it, but installing the OS for real is too much work for just wanting to see what Windows 8 is like.

I thought twice before deleting the ISO, I can give it to a friend with an uber-box who likes testing this sort of things.

I just found out why installation didn't work: my processor doesn't support NX and SSE2. So, the only computer in this household where I could install Windows 8 is my netbook... maybe.

Or maybe not... I have a week since I started using it and it's not really such a big deal... I haven't noticed any big differences between it and win7 taking into account performance or speed.
What does a scene tracker tell to a general tracker?
    You're so 5 minutes ago...

    Thanks
