    uTorrent 2 = spyware ?

Today I found an interesting thread in a private trackers forum which says that utorrent (after 1.6.1) started to work together with a lot of different companies and even without adding any torrent it trys to make a lof connections (which is true.. my firewall is poping every 5 minutes).

Until now i always used 1.6.1 but today i downloaded 2.2.1 (build 25534) and I wonder if it is save?

    thanks

DHT enabled? Ran torrents on the same IP and port recently?

Who knows. I try to remove all the crap in my uTorrent packs. Try the Original mod if you're paranoid.

    dht is disabled
mhh i ran one test rorrent (downloaded 1 mb) but then deleted it.

@edit: is there a chance that you could tell me how i can remove the "home-calling" myself? or just tell me the IP's so i can block them?

    thanks

uTorrent 1.7.2 secure Mod - Leecher Mods -

Then you look for ".com", ".php" and "http://" in the executable and remove anything odd.

okay so basically i unpack utorrent 2.2.1.exe , open it with a hex editor, edit out all the http,php,.com and some other IP's i may find , then pack it again with UPX ?
e.g. instead of all the ip's/domains i will simply replace them with localhost / 127.0.0.1 ?

Private trackers won't notice the changes i made to utorrent and report me as cheater?

    thanks :)

Just fill them with NUL bytes (00).

I don't think I'd be recommending this and using it in my mods if that was the case.

I don't know. It may be part of the Web UI.

Maybe you don't know this already (many people don't, despite it being on the rules), but that little button which says "Thanks" below my posts doesn't bite...

    done !

and for the compression: with --ultra brute i got it to 390kb.. but is the smallest file size also the best in terms of speed?

No, actually more compression equals slower speed. The impact should only affect the decompression phase and be non-existent or neglibible on modern hardware, though.

Bear in mind that packing executables and libraries may make their associated programs consume more memory - usually Windows only loads the parts of them it needs, but it can't do so when they're compressed, so it must load everything, even what it won't use. Won't be a problem with uTorrent, but it may be with other stuff you deal with.
