Thread: ATI Radeon HD3850 problem

  1. #31
I'm afraid there's a problem. If I understood this right, ati/nvidia etc. only updates drivers as long the laptop is on the market. In other words, you can't find compatible drivers on ati's site anymore. You now have 2 choices:
    1. goto your laptop's manufacturer and see if updated drivers exist
    2. edit the .inf files from the latest 6370M drivers and add your your specific vendor id (1002) and device id (68E4). Just need to edit some component similar to your model.

    Hope this helps.

Need your help guys! Not sure what to think about this.
A few days ago I noticed my monitor goes "off" (black screen shows) and after few seconds it comes back again. Before it goes off the screen is like this

Is this related to my ATI Radeon card or could it be really something wrong with the monitor?

I doubt its related to the monitor but I can't be sure. Have you checked the temperature on that card?
    Probably is a hardware failure.

It looks like raindrops fell in your browser!

If the monitor was the problem, you wouldn't have been able to make a screenshot of the glitch. I second Razor's suggestion about checking the temperature. Have you overclocked the card by any chance?

I didn't check for temp. at that time, but now it shows 60°C.
    And it's not overclocked!

60 C while idle? Or when playing a game? If it's the idle temp then there's definetely something going on with the cooling

I'm not familiar with laptop temperatures but on a dedicated card in a desktop 50 C is not too much. Video cards are supposed to be higher than CPUs.

So, my HD3850 died a few days ago!
Luckily I still had GeForce 4 somewhere so while I was searching for a "new" one I had to go with it. Today I got "new" one (used) and after installing it in my PC I started and first thing I notice is in POST screen memory number is only 65536kb. I didn't do anything, and it finally load the windows, it was slow as hell, seriously like having pentium II. After half an hour of getting nowhere, I decide to restart and go into Bios. There I find this: Total Memory 64MB, DDR2 512/166Mhz (DDR333).
So apparently I only have 64MB of RAM??? How so when I have 1GB?? Anyone can help me out plz??? Don't know what to do!

Does this happen if you switch back to the GeForce 4?

    Well, that was fast!

I once had this problem with my machine - fans and lights would turn on, but the thing didn't boot. Opened the case, unplugged some power cables, blew some fresh air and reconnected everything. It worked

After this, windows just wouldn't recognize the card, so I had to google for a few more hours to find the right drivers!
