the only thing this can hit is 'rock bottom', just as its predecessor once did

the kid who made "wimpy" cool
nope, thats holywood trying to make wimpy/emo the new standard of youth behavior, thats their way to 'create culture', one consisting primarily of wimps & bullies and they seem to be doing a successful job so far:

Kinney's "Wimpy Kid" series has thus far sold 42 million books.
they will hint also how it works:

Greg and his older brother - and chief tormentor - Rodrick

and the depicted parents? incompetent, ignorant & gullible, a perfect blueprint for today's average consumer

.......incompetent, ignorant & gullible, a perfect blueprint for today's average consumer
That's pretty much a fair description of how some film and TV-related industries gear-up the average consumer. To keep their minds occupied with celebrity scandals, improbable and unbelievable plots, event, and actions in films and comparing to these things occurring in real life or not.

This is basically the nature or role of some of the major film industries in the world while other less known and more covert events take place that purposefully gear-up populations to be 'dumbed-down'
    "God, from the mount Sinai
    whose grey top shall tremble,
    He descending, will Himself,
in thunder, lightning, and loud trumpet’s sound,
    ordain them laws".

John Milton (1608-1674) in Paradise Lost
