the utorrent site itself has such a service.
    Code:
    www.utorrent.com/testport?port=6881
of course change 6881 to your port

No, port 6881 is not recommend and some trackers won't allow it. The port you chose seems to be fine, if you are getting a green status on uT, then your problem lies elsewhere, do the torrents you are using have enough leechers?

choose a port above 20000 and don't post it here. it's easy to find you that way

Being connectable doesn't mean you will upload. It only allows other peers to successfully establish connections to your computer.

and will port 6881 be better?
Nope, not at all. Read the FAQ in your favorite TBdev-based tracker, and choose a port between 49152 and 65535.

It doesn't really matter which port you use, just don't use port 80 (http) or 443 (https) - also you shouldn't use a port which another program uses. E.g. if you use FTP, you shouldn't use port 21.

Therefore it is recommended to use a port within the range of 49152 and 65535. Personally I use port xxx, because it's easy to remember, and I don't broadcast anything through shoucast, which normally uses port xxx :)
