    SpeSoft Free CD Ripper.

A pretty cool program that I found and had the privilege to use. It works not too bad, I think.

It does not have all the codecs but of course you can download free codecs from the link below. And of course they are easy to install too once downloaded. Just download and then browse to the file.

    Enjoy

Just one of many other browsers out there that are using the Gecko engine.

    Publisher's Description

Custom-built and optimized Firefox browsers for Windows.

Why settle for a basic build of your Firefox browser on Windows Operating Systems when you can have one that performs 25% faster? Mozilla does not provide optimized browser packages for Windows, while many Linux ("from scratch") users get the advantage of a browser built specifically for their system. That needs to change! So, here is the Pale Moon project: Custom-built and optimized Firefox browsers for Windows Operating Systems. Make sure to get the most speed out of your browser.

Of course, getting a faster browser is not just about optimizing the compilation process (building a program from its source code), but also about carefully choosing features and how to choose the best setup. This means that this browser, however extremely close to Firefox, does not have all the functions that Firefox has. A few, carefully selected, features have been disabled that are not in high demand, and that do not interfere with the way web pages are displayed or function; all to maximize speed and efficiency of the browser. Please see the page with technical details to learn exactly what the browser supports, and what it doesn't support. In short, if you need accessibility features or parental controls, then please visit the firefox homepage and get the official, non-optimized build.

    Features:

    Highly optimized for current processors
100% Firefox sourced: As safe as the browser that has seen years of development.
Uses slightly less memory because of disabled redundant and optional code
Significant speed increases for page drawing and script processing
    Support for SVG and Canvas
Support for Firefox extensions, themes and personas

^ I'm using Pale Moon in my netbook (desktop doesn't support SSE2, and the older version which works is well, older). It is a bit faster than vanilla Firefox, and uses less memory. Definitely recommended.

Ya, I user Palemoon too. What a great browser. I love how this browser can import your entire Firefox profile. Including its' extensions, themes, bookmarks, passwords, and everything in between. What's also good is what you also mentioned. The fact that it has a lower memory footprint. Much faster. And currently, it has the same v15 as Firefox. Probably just one of many or a few reasons why Firefox has stabilized itself over the last couple of years amongst other competitive browsers rather than taking off like a rocket with no stopping it at all. It has the same engine as Firefox but with fewer needless functions built in it.

    MusicBrainz Picard

MusicBrainz Picard is a cross-platform (Linux/Mac OS X/Windows) application written in Python and is the official MusicBrainz tagger.

Picard supports the majority of audio file formats, is capable of using audio fingerprints (PUIDs, AcoustIDs), performing CD lookups and disc ID submissions, and it has excellent Unicode support. Additionally, there are several plugins available that extend Picard's features.

When tagging files, Picard uses an album-oriented approach. This approach allows it to utilize the MusicBrainz data as effectively as possible and correctly tag your music. For more information, see the illustrated quick start guide to tagging.

Picard is named after Captain Jean-Luc Picard from the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation.

    What Is ScummVM?

ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!

Here is the link for further information, screenshots, downloads, documentation, and the wiki too:

By the way, this program is good for Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, PS3, Nintendo, and just a host of other platforms. To see the platforms available as well as download links, visit here:

    For Linux users.

anyfs-tools provides a unix-like toolset for recovering and converting filesystems. The following utils are included in the toolset:

nyfs-tools - toolset for recovering and converting filesystems and recovering data from a block device.

build_it uses LINUX OS filesystem drivers to recursively read directory entries in order to obtain information about all of the filesystem inodes. The information is then saved to an external inode table.

anysurrect searches block devices for specific file types, based on their file structure. Information about each found file type is also saved to an external inode table.

reblock changes the filesystem block size. reblock uses information from the filesystems inode table to change each files' fragments placing so that it will align with block boundaries but with a new block size.

build_e2fs proceeds from external inode table information for building ext2fs filesystems on device.

build_xfs proceeds from external inode table information for building xfs filesystems on device.

anyconvertfs converts device filesystem with applying other anyfs-tools utilities

Go to the top of the page and select to download via SourceForge.

Prey lets you keep track of your laptop, phone and tablet whenever stolen or missing -- easily and all in one place. It's lightweight, open source software that gives you full and remote control, 24/7.
    How it works

Basically you install a tiny agent in your PC or phone, which silently waits for a remote signal to wake up and work its magic.

This signal is sent either from the Internet or through an SMS message, and allows you to gather information regarding the device's location, hardware and network status, and optionally trigger specific actions on it

This is the icing on the cake, as they say.

    PDF Toolkit aka PDFtk
    PDFtk - The PDF Toolkit

Based on a CLI, PDFtk is the perfect solution for PDF operations such as merging multiple files, random selection of pages in a document, split each page into a new document and much much more.
    Perfect for automated scripting tasks.

I just found it tonight but I so wished I knew about it 3 years ago.

    Shadow Defender description
Keep your computer privacy and protect your data

Shadow Defender provides a new way to solve current security, data protection and disaster recovery problems. Our unique approach provides disaster prevention, eliminating security, data protection and disaster recovery problems before they occur. Why recover from a PC disaster when you can prevent it?

Shadow Defender is using a unique method called Shadow Mode to ensure PCs are protected. By placing PCs in Shadow Mode with Shadow Defender, you can be confident the system is going to be protected no matter what happens.

Shadow Mode tracks each system change and redirects them to an unused location on the disk. These system changes can be permanently saved to disk, or completely discarded. With Shadow Mode, there is no need to specify regions on disk for backup or use BIOS functions to reserve space for OS images. Shadow Mode is the most efficient and intelligent way to protect PCs.

Shadow Defender provides non-restrictive, easy to use desktop security and protection for Windows operating systems. Shadow Defender is the best way to prevent unwanted or malicious changes from being made to a PC.

Shadow Defender can restore the system state before Shadow Mode no matter what has happened to the PC. At anytime, authorized users can save changes to the system, save selected files and folders or simply return the system to its state before Shadow Mode.
Here are some key features of "Shadow Defender":

    · Optimal State - Configure your system exactly the way you want it ONCE and run in that optimal state at all times. No need to spend the time removing unwanted files or trouble shooting and eliminating unwanted PC changes.
    · System Recovery- Reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for managing and maintaining your PCs by simply rolling the systems back to an optimal state.
    · System Security - Surf the internet without a trace of unwanted cookies, internet history, temporary files, spam applications or spyware.
    · Virus Protection - Prevent downtime and system damage due to virus and worm outbreaks. Prevent the virus from ever being written to the hard disk.
    · Change Management - Maximize system uptime by instantly undoing accidental or malicious system changes.
    · Patch Management - Safely test updates, patches and applications before permanently saving changes to your system.
    · Software Test Optimization - Quickly run various configurations on one system for software test scenarios. No need to reinstall or re-image a system to restore it to its original state.

    Not really a program but will help test anti-viral software;

n order to facilitate various scenarios, we provide 4 files for download. The first, eicar.com, contains the ASCII string as described above. The second file, eicar.com.txt, is a copy of this file with a different filename. Some readers reported problems when downloading the first file, which can be circumvented when using the second version. Just download and rename the file to "eicar.com". That will do the trick. The third version contains the test file inside a zip ARCHIVEe. A good anti-virus scanner will spot a 'virus' inside an ARCHIVEe. The last version is a zip ARCHIVEes containing the third file. This file can be used to see whether the virus scanner checks ARCHIVEes more than only one level deep.

Once downloaded run your AV scanner. It should detect at least the file "eicar.com". Good scanners will detect the 'virus' in the single zip ARCHIVEe and may be even in the double zip ARCHIVEe. Once detected the scanner might not allow you any access to the file(s) anymore. You might not even be allowed by the scanner to delete these files. This is caused by the scanner which puts the file into quarantaine. The test file will be treated just like any other real virus infected file. Read the user's manual of your AV scanner what to do or contact the vendor/manufacturer of your AV scanner.
