    Get VLC now!
    Operating Systems with Binaries

Select your operating system to download VLC binaries:
    Windows
    Mac OS X
    Syllable
    iOS
    OS/2

    GNU/Linux
    Debian GNU/Linux
    openSUSE
    Mandriva Linux
    Arch Linux
    Slackware Linux
    Ubuntu
    Fedora

    Solaris
    QNX

    Source

You can also directly get the source code.

Had been using VLC 1.1.6 along with latest KMplayer as a secondary on my Asus EeePc 1215T which boasts of a ATI 4250 chipset. Inspite of these i always observe stuttering while playing 1080p on both players. Are there any tweaks that needs to be done or is this the way it is on netbooks? Anon suggested Core AVC, will have to try it .Besides will be upgrading to 1.1.8 version.

CoreAVC is awesome. You will notice a difference with HD video and resource usage. Install that and make sure it's coming into effect (disable MPC-HC's internal H.264/MPEG-4 AVC filter, as well as ffdshow's if you have it installed), if you right-click the video and go to Filters it should be listed there.

I have added the Core AVC as it's being shown in the External Filters Tab(Right Click-->Options--> External Filters)

When i click on Internal Filters .. i am seeing lots of codecs, which one should i unselect?

All the H264/AVC ones. Apparently you've already done it.

Is CoreAVC marked as the "preferred decoder" in its settings? If you right-click -> Properties -> Details does it say "Video: MPEG4 Video (H264)" at the bottom?

I managed to get the Core AVC on MPC. But the matter became worse. I am now facing stuttering issues which wasn't there before :(

My settings are exactly the same. No stuttering in my desktop. Maybe your netbook, which uses an integrated graphics chipset, just isn't meant to play 1080p video seamlessly.

But using internal codecs(default MPC) it plays fine. By the way, the file is of .mkv format.
