Thread: Need software!

  1. #16
It just crashes, like you would press the reset button!
My pc was crashing five or six times a day.
Yesterday, i replaced my power supply with a brand new 600w and it works like a charm.
You may want to scan your computer before replacing anything but from my own experience it's power supply problem!

in my case the capacitors on the MB were swollen.. and was the cause of my crash. if u can access ur MB, by opening the cabinet. try checking on the capacitors..

check this link ... check some screenshots of faulty capacitors.

if not.. may be ur RAM

Have you recently installed any updates? Perhaps an antivirus update? I remember Mcafee released an update earlier this year that crashed xp. It was continually trying to reboot. It affected thousands of computers. Maybe you're experiencing something similar to this: Buggy McAfee update whacks Windows XP PCs | Security - CNET News

If you have more than one RAM stick installed; why don't you try using one only to see if the RAM is causing the problem

Gonna try that later. I'm downloading Kaspersky right now, so I'm gonna scan my PC first!

in the meantime see if the event viewer has some info on whats causing the problem

and maybe try downloading 'speedfan' to check on those temperatures

last but not least, try cleaning the computer case interior from dust/dirt deposits as they can severely impact temperatures up to the point of 'random' shutdowns

according to my advice... antivirus nt gonna do much ...
the most major reason for a hardware failure is improper shutdown or power fails.. is this commonly happens with u ?

Or you can download and run memtest86.

This might be caused by a lot of things. PSU, RAM, MB, graphics card even CPU, HDD or other hardware (PCI cards and so on) you dont even think about. First thing was to check the cooling, sensors in everest software shows nothing wrong, why dont you check bios system monitor if available in your bios, then try checking the temperatures manually just in case (i do that in some cases just to be sure if the sensor isn't damaged). Unscrew ur case (btw i recommend doing full cleaning if not done for some time, it wont make any harm) and check how hot are several parts inside, especially northbridge and southbridge chips on the MB (they shouldn't be hot in most cases, if you cant hold your finger on that chip for long, than there might be an issue, i've experienced problems with SB and NB, they are not so rare and additional cooling helps sometimes when not changing whole MB, but you can skip this, this is not that important, just telling), next thing is to use your smell to check if something havent burnt, seriously.
Actually i would split this into two parts. Caused by software or caused by hardware. I would recommend downloading ubuntu live cd and work with it for whole day and see what happens, if it's alright then your hardware should be fine, if you experience the same issue with rebooting, then it's caused by hardware for sure. Ubuntu has helped me a lot with this kind of issues. You can try restoring default bios settings if noone told this before, but FIRST try working with ubuntu live cd for whole day without changing anything or taking the case apart. I would do so, if all those memtests and so on were going well..

For me it looks more like overheating, software or memory issue, but you never know, there are just too much possibilities of what might be causing this.
Btw recently i had a similar issue and PSU was sending wrong voltage to some parts of computer, the system used to reboot 1-3minutes after booting up.

You might also have a look at this app: Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer.
It scans the crash dumps and say what was the problem.
I have used it for quite a while and it has helped me many times.
