Setting up Mame on Windows 7

Following on from my previous thread, does anyone know of how to setup Mame properly, to be actually able to play ROMs? I keep ending in failure, the games I can start up are just unplayable (no controls).

I'd love to get one of those original full sized arcade Cabinet, checked Google and E-bay, they seem wickedly expensive :( No wonder all the arcades are nearly gone, it takes a hell of a lot of quarters to even brake even!

    Games I am interested in,

    - Galaga
    - Ikari Warriors
    - 1941/1942
    - Ghosts 'n Goblins
    - Metal Slug

Ikari Warriors I think is the toughest, as there is no Windows controller that I know of.

Maybe I am doing it all wrong. I am trying to use MameUI (64 bit version). Should I be using the command line version? The ROM's what directory structure should it be in? If I download a rom (Ikari.zip), do I need to extract to the ROM dir, or can Mame play from the ZIP?

Sorry for the noob questions! And thanks in advance

    Download your ROMs here http://www.rom-world.com/dl.php?name=MAME
Or download a full pack from p2p networks (some pack (also my ) are on eMule, a similar full pack is in Torrent network, they are 24 GB without CHDs, CHDs are only 80 games and are 100 GB. Roms 8000+ games in 24 GB).

Latest version of MAMEUI (with GUI)... http://www.mameui.info/

How to play... Download full bios pack from here... http://www.mamechannel.it/pages/bios.php [BIOSPACK (official).zip] and extract in ROMs folder.

If you want artwork there are only packets. You need to download my release from eMule or you will not have snapshot, cabinets and others.

Anyway, you need only ROMs for play. When you copyed bios and roms in the folder open mame from MAMEUI.exe and click on "File --> Audit All Games". Now go on avaible folder and play your roms.

NB: If you don't have original roms set is ILLEGAL download and use roms, from sites and the pack from p2p. This post is for informational purposes only I do not have any responsibility

Legend! Finally been able to get it to play properly, thanks so much! Rom-World seems to have gone down. I'll have to get a few. Thanks again :)

hey Deathless, having some problems getting Galaga working, I get an error message like, galaga : 51xx.bin (1024 bytes) - NOT FOUND.

Doing some googling I came across this site, that shows what additional files I need. But where do I get them? Any ideas?

    Thanks :)

Have you done "Audit Alla Games" after added Rom and bios to ROMs folder ? In any case if you want I can do for you a release with galaga only, or can send to you in PM my complete MAME release...
