Anyone knows a working one? I need a program (not site or Firefox addon) that can download videos directly from YouTube (without servers acting as proxies/converters).
Thanks in advance!

"I just remembered something that happened a long time ago."
Replay Media Catcher
used this program a long time ago, it just allows you to download everything that you can see on your browser
now i just use:
KeepVid
it's an online service, alot more easy and fast
Internet Download Manager?
When you install it; you'll see a download button over youtube videos.
Although I feel you don't-want/know this.
KeepVid requires Java
I'll have a look at the other one...

I've uninstalled IE and the context menu thing doesn't seem to work with IE shells. Next

just curious, why no ff addon?
Your account has been disabled.
Because I don't use Firefox.
This one seems to work!

from what i remember Replay Media Catcher works like packetyzer but for videos if you know what i mean
i guess that will solve your problem
it always worked for me
The "HD Downloader" I found seemed to work, but I'll have RMC in mind in case that stops working (which will eventually happen). I recall using it in the pass to download some Hulu videos, but was put off by having to look for a crack
So far I had been grabbing the files from Opera's cache, or using SmartSniff to capture and dump videos to a file, but got tired of it.

IDM is really great if you ask me, I also use VDownloader.
I use a greasemonkey script that works quite well!
YouTube Video Download for Greasemonkey
It even lets you chose which quality etc. I've tested a lot of programs and sites that claimed to do the same but this little script just outshines them all!
Since you don't use FF, works with Chrome etc too! :)

Doesn't seem to work with Opera 10.10. Did everything correctly and even tried removing the "@include" lines from the file, but the "Download" menu just wouldn't appear.
Why don't most good scripts work correctly in Opera, if at all?

Have you tried Orbit Downloader?
For me it works on less popular sites too.
