1500 utorrent users call for a native Linux version

Almost 1500 users of free, but closed-source, torrent application uTorrent have voted for a Linux version to be made, using the project’s new ideabank page to voice their demand.

The native-Linux suggestion currently outstrips the second most popular idea – to create plug-ins for uTorrent – by over 800 votes.

As far as I know the uTorrent Team makes sure their client officialy supports Wine...so I do not see why they should start from scratch to build a new version, nor who would like to have a "uTorrent Linux 0.0.0.0.0.0.1 Pre alpha RC1" instead of the Win version.
The Linux marketshare is still too low to allocate resources in a native build, and doing so costs a lot of money and time!
No disrespect to anyone using Linux, it is just the true.
    Anyway thanks for the post

I wonder if they could use the mac version as a base for a Linux client. Depends a lot on what libraries they used for that. But I actually don't see much point in a Linux utorrent version.

well, osx is based on bsd and afaik they used the native gui so at least the ui part would have to be redone in gtk2 or whatever

Well, utorrent works great and flawless in wine, every linux distro can very easily install wine so if you ask me it is pointless and waste of time for utorrent devs. utorrent is very nice torrent client, as we all know, quite feature rich and I know some linux users that use it on daily basis.

native clients, as transmission (gtk) can be oversimplified for some users (for example I currently hate it for not having queue (spent 2 min on spelling this word right) feature built in. ktorrent is no-no for me (yuk qt), vuze and deluge too bloated for my taste so I'll probably use rtorrent with web interface when I'll be doing some serious torrenting

ut dös run under wine on osx as well but they did make a native version anyway

don't see how the lack of features is based on native or not

Does running ut in Wine cause such a big system drag? but if the tables were turned and ut was native to linux and I had to run ut in a emu for Windows and it worked flawlessy I think I would still want a native one for Windows hehe

no doubt, performance wise a native version is better

Thats probably because mac os couldn't run wine until it got ported to x86 and/or because number of wine users on mac OS-es is not at all large as it is on linux.

If I got what you wanted to say me right....

I just used transmission (as being one of most popular light gtk ones) as an example of simpler linux client then ut.
I know there is feature rich clients for linux too but I also wrote in my post that they are too bloated. Conclusion: linux doesn't have perfect feature-lightness ratio client as the windows have (utorrent!). Closest attempt would be IMHO rtorrent (which slightly inclines towards performance/lightness and (quite importantly) cleanless of the code then number of features).

sure, but anyway that's a matter of taste and dösn't depend on the os. and it's not sure at all that a possible linux client would have all the features the windows version has and vice versa
