    ADSL connection, need help!

So, I had to downgrade my internet from VDSL 8/1 to ADSL 1mbps!
    Yea, I know it sucks.
What I need is, can somebody tell me how to fix CPU 100% usage when you start, disconnect or restart your PC. I didn't bother with this for years, so I kind of forgot. If I remember correctly you need to put some numbers in you connection propertis, right?

I think he means when the ADSL dialer shows the final message "registering computer on network" or something like that the PC uses 100% cpu and if you play music in winamp it gets stuck?
I suffered from that too if that what he means

yoco, in order to help you we need exact description of the problem.
what OS are you running? XP PRO SP3? Vista? 7?
does your modem connect with USB or Ethernet?
when exactly does it hit 100% cpu usage?

I have XP SP3, it's ethernet. The problem accurs when I'm connecting to the internet and when disconnectin. I think I read somewhere that's because my modem is trying to search for IP, but if you insert some numbers in connection propertis it works just fine!

1Mbps huh, you remind me of myself when I had 1Mbit back in 2006.

I recall reading that if you reduce the Ethernet card's link speed to 10Mbit via the Device Manager you can solve this.

And the "connection numbers" you mention may be the DNS IPs maybe? I remember that with your previous connection you had manually entered your ISP's.

Did you update your drivers for your NIC? It might not solve the problem but it's worth a try. A friend of mine was getting a lot of d/c until he updated his drivers and it was all gone.

that's what I did eventually.. I was in the same situation as he was but for me it was stuck because me and my brother had ICS (internet connection sharing) and when I connected it had to register the connection in the network.

but why is connecting with the OS bad?
