From my point of view if SBfreak has already gone through and carried out all the suggesting on the previous pages then there is definetly a hardware problem.

If after reconnecting all the cables and it still doesnt work then it their definetly something fried.

On a modern motherboard there is usually a backup bios. If you have disconnected everything and the bios is still fk then there is something wrong with the bios. And if there is no backup like on some modern motherboards where they have 2 bios then there is not much even your expert friend can to to save it.

The only thing you can do and it might save you a lot of money is to check which parts are still good and then replace those bad ones. Hopefully there shouldnt be many bad parts.

Lighting perhapes? A bad tip over maybe? Who knows but it doesnt matter. If nothing boots and the system doesnt recognise anything floppies or usb drives wont do much.

I hpe SBfreak won't be mad if I borrow this thread.
After complete XP installation, shouldn't the sound card drivers be installed too?

if the audio card is over 3 years old then XP will usually have a better driver for it. If its under 3 yrs then use the drivers that came with your card.

If its a newer card (or old for that matter) then its best to go online and find drivers for it at the manufacturers site.

Hey guys. I have a problem. I was out today for a few hours and my dad used that time to browse the net. He opened a few sites he shouldn't and now the result of that is my screen is all strange, not like it used to be. I can't even read some of letters. It's all out of focus.

Anyone has any idea what to do?

Looks like ClearType, but the rest of the text is fine.

    I don't have this ClearType.

EDIT: Just found it, but after enabling it it's still the same!

What exactly are you talking about? How the fonts are rendered in firefox or the general menus ?
Rebooting after enabling cleartype might help if it's the first one.
Also what kind of sites did he open?
DId he install some additional plugins or software that "make font rendering better" ?

By default XP has disabled Clear type you need to manually enable it by going through the processes mentioned here:
Steps for making your X-P cleartype

    1. Go to "Control Panel".
    2. Double click the "Display" icon.
    3. Go to the "Appearance" tab.
    4. Click the "Effects" button.
    5. Check off "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" and select "ClearType" in the box.

Alternatively check your LCD/LED's screen resolution it should be in its native resolution otherwise the fonts could get distorted.

I managed to fix this problem. I had to reconfigure "options" on my monitor. Don't know how they got all messed up. I know he doesn't have a clue about it.
