Keeping the franchise and marketing. maybe the producers throught that the movie would sell better with a familiar name
who are we kidding? they thought they could get away with it considering the overall dumbed-down level of citizens coming from a certain country

But anyway JC is much more famous than the Karate Kid franchise, they could have easily called it something else and still get noticed
like the 3h long epic with an equally epic title length:
Jackie Chan's: The Kid Who Wanted to Learn Karate but got Kung-Fu Lessons Instead (2010)

[QUOTE=slikrapid;225693]who are we kidding? they thought they could get away with it considering the overall dumbed-down level of citizens coming from a certain country

    link
"The Karate Kid, known as The Kung Fu Dream in China and Best Kid in Japan and South Korea"
Since it was "Karate Kid" was marketed in the Western English speaking countries and highest grossing was USA, am I riht to assume that your "overall dumbed-down level of citizens coming from a certain country" means USA?

From the perspective of the producers they would want the biggest bang for their buck and that was their choice

Some how your suggestion just doesnt quite roll from the tongue
In the West if Kung Fu Kid was chosen, would probably had some backlash from fans as the base story was based upon Karate Kid, so a safe bet was Karate Kid.

However, if the story was not based upon the original Karate Kid and sliced and diced a bit they still would not have pulled off Kung Fu Kid as that would sound too similar to Karate Kid.

"The Karate Kid, known as The Kung Fu Dream in China and Best Kid in Japan and South Korea"
there's one good title for the international version:
Jackie Chan's: The Karate Kid, known as The Kung Fu Dream in China and Best Kid in Japan and South Korea
now that rolls of the tongue nicely and lands into...

produced by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, the remake stars Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.
how we promised Jackie Chan he would regain his stardom if he does Our 'Karate Kid' Jaden movie...but we lied hehe, the stardom bearer can be only one, one Kid to slap them all and in stardom-less-ness to dump them

Some how your suggestion just doesnt quite roll from the tongue
its not supposed to, the viewers need to feel (through title learning hardship) how hard it was for the kid to learn martial arts and overcome all those hardships still managing to keep his braids intact

they still would not have pulled off Kung Fu Kid as that would sound too similar to Karate Kid.
i'd say they can pull off just about anything they want, remember, they are teh self-proclaimed culture creators (by their own words)

ah Slik, sometime we need them as much as they need us.

if "they" did not make movies where pray tell (haha) can we hide ourselves from the stark contrast of reality?

if we didnt willingly give servitude how the f can they dictate their will?

But in this case my friend its not that deep. JC Im sure is not part of that elite, he maybe an idol to some, a mentor to others but not ill willed

Ahh I just finished watching this movie! I gotta say, I kept voting for the Chinese kid, haha. Smith was just annoying most of the movie for me. And honestly, I'm disappointed in this generation of kids, kissing and doing sexy strip tease like dances at only 12 years old??? Thats crazy. Is this what is acceptable now a days??

I gotta say, I kept voting for the Chinese kid,
the chinese kid is nothing but a local bully or a gang leader, whereas the kid is a self-proclaimed spoiled egoistic kid-hero that uses fighting to solve his problems, a manufactured/manipulated symbolic antithesis that eventually in many ways becomes similar to the original thesis (fi. good killer vs. bad killed, extreme left vs. extreme right in politics and so on)

I'm disappointed in this generation of kids, kissing and doing sexy strip tease like dances at only 12 years old??? Thats crazy. Is this what is acceptable now a days??
thats the mainstream entertainment influence & programming, perverting/distorting & mutating human/family/societal values, the so-called modern progress
