How do I learn music genres? This may sound stupid, but I really do not know what genre is it when I listen to music.
So how do I start on learning this?
    Thanks

I need to think about it. They're not ridiculously expensive, but I don't want to spend money on something I don't know if I'll use. The proverbial return on investment must be good.

Ah, this is one of those easy to grasp, hard to explain things. I'd say look for patterns in works whose genre you already know. Once you realize what they are, you should be able to identify other songs of the same kind.

timberlake? early songs are better, like: 'cry me a river', 'like i love you', etc. - other than that many of his songs sound like c/p variations of (currently) trendy pop tunes (so you can clearly recognize elements ranging from m. jackson up to, say, missy elliot and others), which is pretty lame since the guy can dance, has some suitable moves & a decent stage presence, though lacks originality & memorability in his music

might wanna start with wikipedia for a general overview (genre/artists/albums) and move on to specialized sites (like metal-archives, progarchives,...) for a more respectable/valid/accurate classification - at the same time listen to this music and try to notice similarities between songs/artists of the same/similar genres - eventually you might be able to fairly accurately guess their genre, perhaps even the subgenre
    Thanks

Wow, I just noticed I've been registered here for exactly six years today. Many relationships last less than that, and that's not even considering the Internet to real-world time exchange rate.

Life isn't what it was six years ago. Yet, with time comes experience and it is that which makes us better and wiser at the same time. I sometimes feel the need to just go back but then my mind comes in and says "what are you, nuts?!"

anon, could you show us yours first 2-3 posts on SBI? Would be nice to know the beginning of anon.
    Thanks

I have been messing with Windows 95 a lot recently. I got it to run in DOSBox with high-res video and sound, and now I'll dual-boot it in my laptop, just because I can. There are patches to run with >512 MB of RAM, enable 48-bit LBA and such, which may make it actually possible. Amazing how there's still a huge community supporting it with help posts, unofficial patches and service packs, almost 20 years after the original release. I think the same will happen to XP (which stops being supported on April).

My first posts? With the horrible grammar, overuse of smileys and lack of knowledge I had at the time? No way

Here's my first post ever. https://www.sb-innovation.de/showthread.php?p=22075

    21. I was 15 when I started posting, and it shows on those early posts (go here for more fun). After enjoying the forum for three or four months I became more serious about it, improved my grammar and tried to be as mature as possible in my interactions with other members. And well, here I am now

Well I'm 26 years old from 11 Jan.
I was 20 when I registered here. I have to say I had experience with forums before and never liked smileys.

Maybe we'll meet sometime in real life. You never know...
    Thanks
