Help me buy a new PC!

Hy! I hope it's ok to ask you guys for help!
Anyway, I'm gonna buy a new PC by the end of the year, but I just don't know what to buy, so i was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. I'm a AMD fan, but someone allready told me that i7 is way better to buy now. He made me a list what should I buy.

I'm looking to buy it for 1000€.
    I really appreciate your help!

i7 might be better but not in gaming.
The i5 isn't faster than the Phenom II X4 955.
    So my solution is:
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 (70€) - The mainboards with 790FX chipset for Crossfire or one with 785G if you like to have a onboard graphics chip as backup.
    Phenom II X4 955 (140€)
RAM: Chose some DDR3-1333 (DDR3-1600 isn't in the specification of today's CPUs)
    I have 4 Sticks of 2GB, 8GB (2 4GB Kits) - (You should use a 64Bit operating system. - Vista64 oder Win 7 64bit Edition)
If you only play games 4GB are enough. - You may also buy 4 more GB later.
With the graphics card I would chose a HD5850 (200€) or HD5870 (300€) which has the dopple speed of a HD4890.

The power supply is oversized: I have a 400W PSU with Phenom II X4 and HD3870. The maximum power is around 250W.

You should take a look at power supplies with 400-550W.
Maybe the Enermax Pro82+ series or the Modu series (if you need kabel management)
The be quiet Straight Power 480W should be also an option.

    best regards
    v6ph1

PS: I only have the prices of the german shops - your prices in slovenia are maybe a little bit higher.
PPS: If you have around 200-300€ over you may take a look at a SSD as system drive.

I think i build a better PC for same Price You shold maybe look for Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB hdd(best 1tb for now and cheaper then seagate and wd) and for memory maybe go for Gskill Ripjaws ddr3 series.and if you look in other stores i think you can overall pass for 50-100 eur cheaper, there can be big differences in prizes in some stores

Thnx a lot so far! There're still two months to go, until I buy it, so I hope prices will go a bit down!
Want to ask something. I heard that it's better to buy 2x640GB then 1TB. Is that true?

if you have 2 HDD of the same type, you can build a RAID-System. This is faster than a "stand alone" HDD. But i would buy a 1 TB HDD and later buy another HDD (same type) and build a RAID-System later (with 2 TB).

like system28 said : 2 HDD in Raid0 are Faster than 1 HDD and i heared too that new samsung HDD are Faster and Better than WD Caviar Black.
For Me i5 is much Better Than x4 955 and he out perfom it in stock speed and consume less than x4.by the way if you overclock the i5 it'll crash the phenom II.

The only problem with raid 0 is that if one of the drives dies, you then lose all you data. What I do is i run my OS on 2*SSD in raid 0 (2*60gb OCZ ssds which is amazingly fast). Unfortunately SSDs are still expensive and the technology is still in its infancy, but two normal smaller HDD in raid 0 would be still quite quick. Then everything such as documents, movies, music etc are stored on a seperate raid 5 or raid 1 array for redundancy.

Ram is quite cheap nowa days as well, 6-8gb DDR3 can be quite cheap. Though to utilise a tri channel setup you need an intel i7 cpu and an x58 chipset, its also an Intel only thing at the moment as far as i know. But all these little things will probably push you over budget a tad.

Some people dont think anything above 4-6gb is needed, i have to say though its quite handy to have, you dont really need to worry too much about memory usage once you go past that amount.

    Btw - Intel I7 920 rocks

Due to security reasons, you have to upload it to an image hoster like Imageshack first.

We're only allowing the most well-known ones. But since it doesn't look harmful, I'll add yours to the whitelist.

    Edit: done, try again.

Not realy - the HD5850 has 10% less shader clusters, shaderprocessors and texture units than HD5870.

you need to overclock to around 11% higher clocks than hd5870 to reach the speed - not possible.

    best regards

PS: I've nearly the same configuration only a little bit more ram and an older graphic card (hd3870).
