Lots of changes it seems since this review was written...

Thank you, I've edited the first post. Please don't delete those pictures from your albums as I've linked them there.

Are their current open signups real? I was hesitant to post in the corresponding thread since these guys have been invite-only for ages, and their "registration" form used to rickroll you upon submitting it.

Yes it's real. In first time I also didn't believe that but it's true. They also have news for open signup in their homepage. So fill them up
Edit:- It's close now. It was open for only less than 3 hours.

Thanks, I'm not interested on an account, I just wanted to know if it was true. Maybe donations are trickling

Maybe the tracker was getting to small. The site op at SCC regularly uses the term GhostFuckingTown for GFT...
Nonetheless, they don't seem to have terribly changed from two years ago...

The paypal account is working now, but the homepage continuously displays request for donations and site online till xxxx date which is very irritating. Hope the new members donate and the site lives. GFT is actually a no nonsense tracker where people only download. Nobody comments on the torrents, forums are virtually dead and there is no thanks button too. So just download and thats it.
i let my gft account die a while back - their staff are up their own assess and the whole place lacks any real community feel - as a couple of posters have mentioned, the place feels dead as nobody communicates (aside from in their irc rooms).
comms aside though, even the speeds i was getting there were nothing compared to scc, which are pretty damn close to ftp speeds on certain files - i guess the vast numbers of seedboxes help though...
I wouldn't care about no one using the forums or commenting on torrents, if the place has what I want content-wise. That's what the vast majority of people are in torrenting for - to get files. The community aspect is (or should be) secondary.
But if they don't deliver on that regard either, then there's nothing to do there, yes.

i understand what you're saying completely, but for me, i always like to know the community is active as then i have more respect for the site and i'm more likely to stick around - bitgamer, for example, is somewhere i started out as a dirty little cheat, but quite quickly i became someone who contributed a lot of new content because it just seemed worth it, as people were grateful!
with gft, the lack of any community spirit just made me think 'wtf? this site is so highly regarded but nobody gives a shit about anything!'
i'd have just leeched there, but the speeds and content weren't even worth it for me!
out of curiosity, does anyone know how ftn compares to gft? it's the only tracker i ever wanted to take a peek at, but never had the chance...
ah - i'll end my sidequest for access there then!
