I've seen linux, I like it, but I wouldn't want to run into some compatability problems. I'll stick to the friendliness of windows for now .

Windows because most applications are developed on it for it, however can be annoying sometimes. But Linux would be my 2nd choice if I had one because its a very fast OS.

On the contrary..most applications are developed on linux.
    A good example is VLC.

He means, that all of most-used application has written in MS VS, so it Windows-based.

For me it is Windows, coz it's only system that i have at this time. Saw Mac OS, really nice thing...

my vote for osx. why? because it combines the positive aspects of windows and linux.

    • the os itself is a highly customized bsd and open source.
    • contrary to linux all the major desktop apps are available.
    • no malware, virii whatsöver.
    • as expected from a bsd it's transparent and solid. with all the usual unix benefits.
    • the avg. osx-only app seems to be well designed. and by 'designed' i mean not just the optical aspects.
    • application management is very easy and straight forward. actually it's much better than on linux and windows.
    • desktop features are really handy. not just toys without actual use.

of course the biggest plus for me is what i called 'usual unix benefits'. elaborating that would be way too long for here but depending on your knowledge you know what i mean ...

Something confuses me. If linux is opensouce and freeware and OSX is based on linux, why isnt OSX freeware and opensource? Ive used Mac and Linux before and I think it has and will make an even bigger impact in the future, dont get me wrong I like Linux although mainly being a Windows user.

, why isnt OSX freeware and opensource?
osx is open source as i wrote. but not freeware.

no, it's about the license. by buying the $29 bucks thing you're a legit owner so you are officially allowed to use a hackint0sh. the osx usage terms are not restricted to apple hardware

(joking Linux, Mac is good too)

Of course its a good thing. just look at firefox and any other well maintain opensource code. Just consider pgp for a moment - rock solid.

But then Windows have millionair programmers working innovate and patch holes too.
