I like that mouse curser support.

One thing that I don't like about VLC, is the fact that it just seems to hang each time I try to open a folder. Can';t get it to function right.

Maybe not with you, but with me it happens.

I've tried other media players, like kantaris which is built on the same model as VLC, but that has it short-comings as well.

I had to return to vlc b/c BSPlayer PRO just doesn;t seem to open up ISO files.

VLC is good, that's for sure.

But it;s also has a 'lagging' effect while playing some files while doing other things liKE downloading or some other program is operating in the background that BSPlayer just does not seem to encounter.

Though it's probably due to the small amount of Ram that I have.

Meh. VLC is very handy in some situations, but it always has problems when I jump into the middle of a video, and it freezes for a second. The sound then works, but not the video. This is the only thing keeping me from using it as my only video player. I hope with all the new changes, this is not going to be a problem for the next release.

That's an interestin report as I have the exact same kind of problem with this player.

I 've learned that VLC is good for only a few files for me now. Basically .ISO files which BSPlayerPro can't seem to play. EVen with FFDShow installed.

Now with BSPlayer Pro, you wouldn't have this problem. I can skip forward, both the sound and video remain intact with no skipping or lagging of video.

SealLion, I have checked VLC on Ubuntu Linux, and that problem is not there. IT is really wierd.

Either way, once a new version comes out, I am very sure that they will have fixed several issues people have had.

    YOu tested it on Ubuntu??
That's good news to hear that, that issue isn't present there.

I have Kubuntu and I don't really care for the default media player there,
though now that you mentioned that your not finding it on unix, I think that i'll give it a shot there, then.

i think this is down to how the media has been encoded - i've seen this a lot with vlc player - i did a quick test recently with 2 copies of the same movie encoded by 2 different people/groups, both as xvid - one of them displayed the freezing problem you described, and i had to wait maybe 5-10 seconds each time i shuttled through the movie for the video to catch up with the audio, but the other one was instantaneous...

i could easily be wrong, but i'm guessing it's how things are encoded (i have a fast machine and 4gb of ram, so it's not my system spec for sure)...

To be honest I've never faced any problems with VLC media player. None. It is feature rich, and much easier to navigate than the like of WMP, but still maintains a decent looking interface. I use it on high end systems (Quad-core, 8gB of RAM), low end systems (512mb of ram, processor is 8 years old) and on Linux (Ubuntu 9.04) it works exellently on all systems.
