    Vuze Portable Released

Vuze Goes Portable, With a Price Tag

Vuze, the BitTorrent client formerly known as Azureus, has just been released in a portable version. Unlike the regular Vuze client, Vuze to Go is closed source and costs $9.99. No doubt a pirated version will end up on torrent sites sooner or later.

Hehe, they make a portable, and charge for it... ghostfucker makes a portable within the same period, and it's free! Perhaps SB-I's traffic might increase.

thats also possible, i can wrap the complete vm into the exe. but the size would increase (>100mb) like vuze's portable...

i wonder if the portable version is less resource consuming than the original version?

Unless the Portable version uses the heapsize trick, the resource usage should be the same.

Aren't they doing basically the same as Shu with this, charging people for GPL code?

    Yes, you're right with that:
"The Vuze application bundled into Vuze To Go is still open source. However, the Ceedo virtualization package is not open source"
And after reading the article, it seems that Vuze's team didn't have any choice but to ask money for the Portable.

At least there's a free trial available...

i'm gonna try re-creating this myself during the next couple of hours -
i grabbed ceedo enterprise last night and i'm very impressed with it - it the in built installer can be pointed towards a setup file and carry out a full installation to a portable device - i'm now running photoshop and office 2007 (as well as a lot of other stuff) directly from my usb stick.

i was doing this before, but the portables were downloaded rips that people on warez forums had put together - using ceedo i can use the original discs/installation files to make my stuff portable, plus the gui is really nice!

if anon/hitman need ceedo for testing and have any trouble tracking it down, let me know!

The main proponent to use Vuze To Go is that it uses a private virtual machine technology that doesn't need you to have a JRE installed. You think you can manage the same with Ceedo?

well, vuze to go is produced by the ceedo team, so it must be fairly easy to replicate.

about 2 or 3 years ago when i really got into portable apps, i could run azureus from a usb key using a jre loader (also present on the usb key, no installation necessary), so i know it's not that complicated.

vuze and ceedo must just have worked together to allow for an ultra compact, clean way of doing this. nothing but optimisation and a price tag
