    My Preciousssss!

    The Hunt for Gollum (2009)

The Hunt For Gollum is a 40 minute independent film inspired by The Lord of the Rings. It tells the story of Aragorn as he sets out to discover the truth about the Ring and was inspired by the appendices from Tolkien's fantasy epic. With a budget of £3,000, the film cost... well... somewhat less than Peter Jackson's trilogy, but that doesn't mean this fan-film looks like it was put together with cardboard and string. The production is completely unofficial and unauthorized by the Tolkien estate or New Line Cinema, which produced Jackson's film trilogy. The film was shot in high definition. The Hunt for Gollum is set to debut at the Sci-Fi-London film festival and free-to-view on the internet on 3 May 2009.

Definitely, saying that for £3000 they have done well, would be a huge understatement; it looks superb! Best of all, as is stated, it's free!

I don't see how some CGI movies can cost as much as they cost... they don't have any actors in them, nor have to create any real-life special effects.

Just finished watching it; pretty good! Wish I had watched it conjunction with the three movies, but I don't have the time. The film it self looks top-notch, and for the most part looks like it is a Peter Jackson creation. All the characters have, well designed costumes, and the CGI Gollum looks decent. Only things that gives it away are that the characters have slightly different voices, and the fight scenes aren't as elaborate. Just because it is fan made, do not be put off - well worth a watch.

My only complaint is the handling of the release; as the two links show, the creators decided to go with DailyMotion. Streaming, in any quality, is always poor and doesn't do their efforts nor the story justice. IMO, they should have released multiple torrents, each a different quality version. Another complaint would be a lack of subtitles, so that people from all around the world can enjoy this fully; but I wasn't effected by this.

    10/10
