    Swine Influenza

I can't believe that no one is talking about this here...

27 April 2009 -- The Emergency Committee, established in compliance with the International Health Regulations (2005), held its second meeting on 27 April 2009. The Committee considered available data on confirmed outbreaks of A/H1N1 swine influenza in the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada. The Committee also considered reports of possible spread to additional countries. On the advice of the Committee, the WHO Director-General has raised the level of influenza pandemic alert from the current phase 3 to phase 4

Nothing big. Everyone got shit-scared over SARS, but that was blown out of proportion by the media (it has a 2% death rate FFS). Then bird flu came along; and gues what, we're still alive. Jeremy Clarkson said something a long the lines of "Weren't we all supposed to be dead by now?" in refernece to brid flu. And on that basis, I'm not worried about swine flu.

Yes, I do have heard of this, but I assumed that it is being overhyped by the media as are most things. Hopefully that is truly the case.

The problem is that Mexico swine influenza has good pandemic potential. The World Health Organization raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to phase 4 (See HERE). There is only one level left between now and possible pandemic period. So no, I don't think it's just the media hype, I think there's an actual danger here. But I hope everything ends up being fine though.

I think more people are dead of common disease than this swine flu or H1N1 is the new name.

Although, I am staying away from coughing people just in case!

The media is making this flu way more than it is suppose to be.

I know in mexico they closed down the town that they thought this happen in and that is fine but the WHO thinking of calling this a pandemic is a bit of a stretch...

Maybe it will be...I just hope not!

    WHO fears pandemic is 'imminent'

The UN's World Health Organization has raised the alert over swine flu to level five - indicating human-to-human transmission in at least two countries.

still, "normal" drugs like relenza and tamiflu work against that viral strain, so no need for panic
