What's wrong with a thread being too long? I presume there's a performance hit, but never bothered to look up the specifics.
It seems the only way to make Windows 9x use more than 1 GB of RAM is a commercial patch costing $20. I guess that wasn't a concern in 1995...
Also, new spam thread, new avatar.
Yoco beat me to it. I wasn't the last member to post, damn.
You better give up on that '95. It is possible to make it work even on never quad-core PCs but in no way is the effort worth it.
If you look closely on MSFN, they use latest versions of MS Office and Firefox/Opera which are next to impossible without massive updating the OS. Forcefully, that is...
It is fun, yes, and I did it in 2010 but that was it. I ended up deleting the OS.
It would all have been for fun mostly (snatching and having to try updates being part of that :wtongue:), with the side effect of maybe having a system that's actually usable. But being limited to 25% of available memory is a killjoy, I already had enough of that with Intel's buggy drivers.
I guess you're right, there isn't really any point to this, already knowing what '95 is like, and not having any software or hardware that's not compatible with 7.
Windows 98 was what the very first computer in this household had, a Compaq Presario 7360.

Its JBL speakers are the ones I'm using to this day.
nice i had a k6, too. wasn't exactly a blast tho :P
Well at least Ill be on the first page :)
Hey yoco,
Spoiler sad:
:birthday::dj:
Really?! Happy Bday man
At least it was new enough not to have a keyboard lock and turbo button. :wgrin:
The fun we had with that computer, Win98 and dial-up Internet. Now it's been inside a box collecting dust for a long time now. Nowadays these motherboards sell for less than 10 USD online, processor and RAM included (not going to buy any though, I had enough with the Compaq laptop).
And of course, congratulations to yoco for surviving yet another year. :ggrin:
I was going to post yesterday, but the forum went down and remained so until just now.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOCO!! May all your wishes come true.
I know it is a bit late but I couldn't reply sooner.
Win 95 was my first OS too. :D But was quickly swapped for Win 98 which was way more stable. What are you running !on it? I remember playing good old games like first versions of Doom, Age of Empires, Quake, Worms... Encarta 98!!!
The Incoming CD was bundled with the computer, and so I played that a lot. Encarta also had a game in which you wandered a castle and had to answer history questions to go further or something like that.
Also, Internet Explorer 4, Winamp 2, RealPlayer G2, dialers for the first free dial-up ISPs which displayed skyscraper-sized banners at the bottom of the screen but saved you from paying 9.90 USD for Internet access, timer programs to control the usage of said Internet access (you still had to pay the phone company, see), McAfee Antivirus '99, Kazaa, eMule 0.2something, Cacheman/Cablenut and a ton of other "tweaking" apps, GetRight, CloneCD 2, Winzip, Hacha (a Spanish app to split files in 1.44 MB segments), ACDSee 3, etc.
I made it halfway through, to the snow levels. Then there was a mission I couldn't beat no matter what, so I stopped playing and never picked it up again. Early on where you had to pick something up with an helicopter with limited weaponry, that one was pretty difficult.
I'd like to add that I played it using a joystick plugged in the motherboard's Game port, something that has ceased to exist.
If I had known about ADOM at the time, I'd have become dangerously addicted
I just stumbled upon this, the difference between a cabinet and a rack. Might be an interesting read C H A P T E R 3 - Rackmounting the Servers

It seems stupidity is only called such when it causes negative results. Otherwise, it gets names like "creative solution", "thinking outside the box", "interesting concept"...
Nice track, but I'm still stuck @ house

Bad news for me today. The government is cutting down the work schedule for those with my job position, from three four-hour shifts to two. They argue they don't have enough funds to pay us otherwise, but I have a hard time believing that. And whatever the reason, it also means 1. one third of the student body has to visit on a different shift than their own whenever they need our services, 2. instances like many days of last year where all the daily hours available weren't enough to deal with a particular issue will get even harder to deal with, 3. those who held more than one shift are now deprived from the extra work and subsequent income, of course.
But for me, the biggest problem is that special person I talked to you about last year, who held two, now having to choose which one to keep. And depending on her choice, we'll be seeing each other less often or simply not at all. That's an absolute lose-lose, and I felt like I had been punched in the face when I realized this.
Word has it that the government called the rector of each school, and basically asked them to just kick the guy they liked the least to another place to ease paperwork. Thankfully, in our particular case he didn't want to see either of us gone and absolutely wouldn't have it any other way. And as I only had one shift to begin with, in theory this doesn't affect me at all, but for what I mentioned above none of this is not worth it for me and I wish they could just make things like they were last year. But well, many others are also affected. We'll try exhausting every possible way to formally complain about change, and they may revert it... maybe. And if not, perhaps we can work a different timetable with the school authorities off the record or something like that... *sigh*
What he said.
Just tried to post a tutorial for something I was having trouble with and resolved on my own ^.^
Sadly, somehow it's gone... Anyone got a clue why?
*Stares deeply towards anon*
Edit: Nevermind, it showed up.
