Does someone use IRC for downloads?
How it compares to bitTorrent, one-click-hosters, and so on?
Yes, i sometimes use IRC for download the tv show like Angel or Smallville, the speeds are very good (they're direct links). However i use much more torrents.
Never used it.Quote:
IRC for downloads
Just thought I'd say it. I dislike IRC, in general.
used it before bittorrent was invented.
speeds are _OK_ if you know where to look.
but the search just wears you down.
it can't be compared to torrenting.
XDCC and other IRC scripts were nice back in the day when BT wasn't that farspread. But today the selection of files is getting ever smaller and it's hard to find rarer stuff, especially since some channels are even more closeknit than private trackers. I don't think it's worth the hassle anymore.
depends, any method (p2p's, och's, irc,...) can be satisfactory if it offers what you need/want with good sources ('right' locations) to get the stuff
so if you find good xdcc bots you can download with, for example, xdcc klipper from a continuously updated list of packs (packets) using almost a 'one-click' method for it
or if you find good sharers in various channels you can get older released stuff, rarely available otherwise
but, irc is not mainstream or trendy so expect spartan interface, lots of typing (instead of clicking) and low searchability, slower (home) connections, queues & limits, sometimes song-by-song download and so on - if you want ease-of-use, continuous support (downloading tools or forums with links) then irc is not the right place to search
irc.
its kinda complicated to search like one link hosters sites with it..you can do it thats true..
but in my opinion dont use irc..otherwise find some sites which gave you links of freshly added or newely added softwares in one link hosters...
i download alot things via them too..more things let me know .k
downloading from irc reminds me of downloading from private ftp
IRC and DCC is like chinese to me :D I struggle with simple things :D
the heart of sharing is FTP'S then IRC...
all groups firstly spread files over these connections.
then;
torrent and eMule
and
these are what can be seen easily...reaching is easy.
ANON this is a nice picture do you have a bigger one so can be read easily.
No, I don't. You can always resize it, though
can be a nice poster though... if more than 4mps :)
except for the 'minor' objection that the image is full of errors and misleading, its rather nicely designed
@saebrtooth
but that was the point!
Resize and if you don't understand sharpen the image.Quote:

slikrapid summarised it very well.
I sometimes use xdcc bots @ rizon irc to grab some anime quickly. Works well if you know where to look... First you need to know what are you exactly looking for, then join #news first to check out quallity xdcc bots (or join channel of specific fansub group and inquire there for (un)official xdcc's) and the rest is simple as drinking water. You got link with packlist (for example), then you just request file that you want. The packlist in the my example is very newb friendly and will give you exactly what you need to enter in your irc client: lets say /msg THORA|Thunder xdcc send #11
This if for file number 11, which if you look at Thunder' packlist is: Akira_(1988)_[1080p,BluRay,x264,DTS]_-_THORA.mkv
Then your IRC client automatically downloads this file (in case there is noone in waiting line before you) and that is pretty much it. Quite simple and effective.
IRC downloads were quite awesome in the beginning, then it became completely overpopulated, often having to wait 2 days before the send even started.
Now i'd say it's practically dead, and started dying around the time torrents became known. And for a reason, of course! :)
hey i know some people get free rapidshare accounts nad accounts of brazzers and other porn sites by entering some specific channels nd by entring some scripts ....
the accounts are of short duration like 1 month or a week and sometimes a day but still people do it..
i know a person who does that in my college and someone knows who to do it:unsure:
Shame that anon dislike IRC if he doesn't he'll get hidden treasure there for his pleasure.
About that script, hellman. I don't know because I have not swim IRC channel deeper yet.
Does it offer me stuff I can't find elsewhere already with the speeds I'm used to? How hard to get is it? Is it really worth the effort, and will I be able to keep up once I'm in?
Those questions have prevented me from getting into trackers I won't use, and with some changes also appear to work for IRC downloading.
Well, compare to torrents, IRC is not cool to download big sized stuff but great for smaller stuff like e-books, some crack files, some password for porn sites, etc.
IRC need a lot more work than joining a tracker. So, It can be said with IRC, you're an agent store, with tracker, you're an end - user.
Like there's not already enough porn on trackers..:rolleyes2:Quote:
some password for porn sites
I remember a tracker that is specialized in that kind of high definition material. It was reviewed on FSF but I can't find it:frown:
HQPorn?
They died or changed domains or something.
So you were a member ..cheatos:wink2:
You can find some HQ porn on hdnow.org too.
yes i was :P
ah thank you but i have bithdtv and hd-torrents :P
Thank you for all to the contribution for this topic. I have read it -- really -- even though my post count and account activity doesn't support it. :wink2:
Anyway, I have tried IRC myself now, and the result was that it isn't the best method in the market.
Even so, I would like to know that is it more secure to use IRC than bittorrent; what do the servers and channels know about me if I am using mirc? Is it only an ip address, and my (fake) email -- or do they get some other info too, such as my system name and mac-address?
I used it long time ago. Is the fastest for download but sometime the bot are occupated and you are in queque. For that if you want speed uTorrent is better :top:
Tried it on couple of occasions, speeds were mediocre but I disliked that whole concept of downloading. Torrenting is way better.
