für die Kunden. Für die Anbieter sind sie eigentlich die Büchse der Pandora. Das haben die Provider schon Anfang der letzten Dekade schmerzlich bemerken müssen, als beispielsweise 1&1 circa 30.000 Neukunden in vier Wochen mit einem extragünstigen Tarif einsacken konnte, bei der ersten Abrechnung aber merkte, dass die Neukunden mehr Kosten verursachten, als sie Einnahmen lieferten. »Heavy User«, so nannte man damals schon solche Kunden. Und so nennt man sie heute auch noch. Kunden, die völlig legitim das angepriesene Angebot des Providers in vollem Umfang nutzen. In meinem aktuellen Fall 150 GByte für 40 Euro im Monat. Wow!
Tatsächlich finde ich knapp 40 Euro im Monat für so ein lebensbestimmendes Instrument wie mein Internet ganz schön preiswert. Billig geradezu. Dabei ist die Telekom noch nicht mal der günstigste Anbieter. Um mal einen Vergleich zu bringen: Flottes Internet ist mir ähnlich wichtig wie mein Auto – für das eine einzige Tankfüllung mehr kostet als ein Monat Internet-Sause. Ich wäre also bereit, mehr Geld für meinen Anschluss zu bezahlen. Ich würde bestimmt sogar knapp 80 Euro dafür ausgeben, das wäre es mir allemal wert. Insofern sollte ich 2016 also eigentlich entspannt entgegensehen. Denn mal ganz plump angenommen, weitere 75 GByte Highspeed-Internet würden ebenfalls wieder knapp 40 Euro kosten, dann käme ich für 80 Euro auf die im letzten Monat angesaugten 150 GByte.
Aber! In drei Jahren dürfte mein Traffic – und der vieler anderer Spieler – noch mal um einiges größer sein als heute. 2016 habe ich bestimmt einen SmartTV zuhause, an dem obendrein die beiden neuen Konsolen von Microsoft und Sony klemmen. Internet-Fernsehen in gescheiter Auflösung plus Konsolen-Streaming-Gedöns, vielleicht mit einer (wenn auch eher unwahrscheinlichen) Always-On-Pflicht bei der neuen Xbox, immer größere Spiele – meine Internet-Realität sieht 2016 messbar anders aus als heute. Messbar in GByte. Messbar in Geld. Wie viel Geld, das weiß ich noch nicht. Und das bereitet mir aktuell ein wenig Kopfzerbrechen. Dabei bin ich noch in einer vergleichsweise komfortablen Situation: Wir sind zuhause nur zu zweit, wie sieht’s denn beispielsweise zukünftig in Haushalten aus, in denen mehrere Familien-Mitglieder »Heavy User« (also eventuell Spieler oder Online-Seriengucker) sind und das Internet ähnlich intensiv wie ich nutzen? (»Schatz, lass uns Kinder zeugen!« - »Bist du wahnsinnig? Denk doch an den Traffic!«)
Klar, für wenig-Surfer wie Tante Käthe und ihr Kaffeekränzchen wird die Volumengrenze keinerlei Auswirkungen haben – die bleiben eh drunter. Wir Spieler hingegen sind die Leidtragenden, unsere Volumen-Anforderungen lässt sich die Telekom künftig teuer bezahlen. Dass Entwickler ihre Titel kleiner programmieren, dass EA das nächste SimCity ohne Always-On-Pflicht rausbringen wird, dass gigabytegroße Updates demnächst mit der Post kommen, dass Spiele, die man im Laden auf einem Datenträger kauft, nicht während der Installation irrerweise doch übers Internet runtergeladen werden wollen, nur weil die Telekom einen Volumentarif in Deutschland eingeführt hat, das kann man getrost unter Knabenmorgenblütenträume abspeichern und wieder vergessen.
Was man wohl auch vergessen kann: dem Volumentarif zu entgehen, indem man den Anbieter wechselt. 1&1, Vodafone, O2 und wie sie alle heißen – das sind Reseller, die lediglich Netzkapazitäten für ihre Kunden bei der Telekom kaufen. Dass bei 1&1 & Co. die Kosten nicht auch entsprechend steigen werden … siehe Knabenmorgenblütenträume. Wenn die Telekom vorturnt, müssen die Reseller zwangsläufig irgendwann nachturnen.
Ich möchte ab 2016 jedenfalls nicht darüber nachdenken müssen, ob ich Battlefield 5 noch heute runterlade – oder doch erst in zwei Wochen, wenn es wieder ins Inklusiv-Volumen fällt. Oder ob ich mir gleich ein Highspeed-Zusatzpaket kaufe. Oder zwei. Und ständig das Auge auf einem Zähler haben – das will ich schon mal gar nicht.
Und ja, bis 2016 kann noch viel passieren, bis 2016 könnte aus »Kabel Ein-paar-Orte-in-Deutschland« wirklich Kabel Deutschland werden. Oder M-Net schafft’s auch endlich bis in mein Kuhdorf. Ich schau aber sicherheitshalber mal, wie viele 150-Stunden-Gratis-Internet-CDs von AOL ich auf Ebay noch finde.
Denn, liebe Telekom, wie wär's denn mal damit gewesen, billige Volumentarife für Tante Käthe und Onkel Erwin anzubieten, die sowieso nicht mehr brauchen? Und weiterhin Flatrates an all jene zu verkaufen, die sie tatsächlich ausreizen – sprich, an uns Spieler? Wie meinen, damit ließe sich ja noch weniger Geld verdienen? Ach ja, richtig.
