never thought i'd see a post liek this in a thread called "chat/spam thread
well, its a sign of the times, to do a partial quote: '...everything is backwards...' (meaning: things are distorted, misaligned, misdirected,...)

i'm very self-aware. i'm sure most intelligent and educated adults are the same as well, but...how self-aware can you really be?
i'm afraid self-awareness (regardless of the level) does not necessarily arrive with increased intelligence (fi. when intelligence is not used for the purpose of achieving greater awareness) or education (fi. when education remains mere accumulation/reproduction of data)
you're talking about being aware of your current personality characteristics (which change over time and may be changed at will, lets call them your 'temporary self'), i'm referring to a deeper insight that goes beyond this temporary layer, whose purpose is to find out the foundations, the very essence of your being (true self, that which is unchangeable, the fundamental level, the final frontier, the ultimate origin,...)

but when it comes to improving yourself? who knows you better than you? i mean, you can ask your family/friend for feedback (on personaltiy quirks/problems) but i don't do this because most of the time what they have to say isn't useful, since they're not me.
you are the only one fit for the task of 'knowing thyself', feedback from others is useful for keeping things in perspective, like additional info from their point(s) of view that can act as a correctional factor in your pursuit, though it may act as a hindrance if their perspective is faulty, too limited, too biased, has ulterior motives and such

you have to help yourself. so you need talk to people about their perspective, read widely, and maybe you'll discover something about yourself.
you will surely discover many things, whether you actively look for answers or not, the question is:
- are these discoveries relevant (insights or mere trivia)
- are they being properly assessed (or still belong to the limited awareness level, to the 'temporary self' domain)?
- are they being applied in a practical way (or just as mere theoretical constructs, for mental/thinking games or entertainment)?
- can you monitor the results without deluding yourself about their successfulness?
- in other words: is it useful, are you applying it and how well is it being applied
