Are there any good free alternatives to Thunderbird? Any in development that you know of?
Here are some I researched after the Thunderbird fiasco.
eM Client: This feature-rich email client offers a clean interface, strong organizational tools, and support for various email providers. It even includes a calendar and contact management functions.
Claws Mail: A free and open-source option, Claws Mail is known for its speed and efficiency. While its interface may seem less intuitive compared to others, it offers extensive customization options for power users.
Mailspring: This user-friendly email client prioritizes a clean and modern interface. Mailspring also integrates well with popular services like Slack, Dropbox, and Todoist, making it a good choice for those who juggle multiple platforms.
Zimbra: A free, open-source alternative to Thunderbird that offers a cloud-hosted version
Spike: - A freeware email client that combines email with instant chat. It collects tasks, chats, and emails in one location.

Claws is a fork of Sylpheed and the one I'd recommend trying first.
Anyone remembers Incredimail, The Bat and Outlook Express? There's a compatibility patch for OE, although I wouldn't recommend using it for anything other than reading and exporting archived messages.
I just forgot the soft fork BetterBird,
