I'm currently a student of Exercise and Sport Science studying at Concordia University in Irvine, California, I will help you find out what sport is perfect for you. What do you want to accomplish? What muscle groups are you looking to improve? How are you motor skills?
I would say, running. It's fairly cheap and easy to do,
and it's a good cardio excersise.
Best for the entire muscle system and circulatory is swimming but it take a lot of time, so a good run is equally useful!
I would recommend to start with simple walking first if you are not fit, then add running, swimming & basketball are two sports that are good for both legs and arms and enjoyable and not aggressive ( I mean safe).
I agree with the posts above swimming and running/jogging are great options !

Best sport that wont hart the heart or the lags is swimming or walking distance
I love to swim ! but I have no time
boxing, bro. I lost 12 pounds in a month on boxing training 3 times a week. Mind you, I still wasn't eating right that time. Would've lost a whole lot more if I were eating properly.
u can't just tell only 1 exercise for fitness.. u have to do many if u wanna b fit... join gym n swimming club
bodybuilding along with cardio excercises do the trick for me :)
