How exactly do you mean "got caught"? By law enforcement?
No, I got a letter about a year ago from some us government agency (can't remember who, wasn't FBI, CIA, it was something else. I remember they had an abbreviation though.) Anyways, I got a letter from my ISP telling me that they were told by this agency that I was caught sharing a movie and I needed to stop immediately.
lol, what??? :stupid:
Luckily I have no such problems for now! ;)
I think it's a matter of where you live and how harsh are anti-piracy laws in your country.
* Until some more serious piracy threats kicks in.
Odds for getting caught for torrenting on private trackers are almost equal to 0%
You got caught on open trackers because anyone can connect and scrape for ip addresses, on private trackers they can't do that because user connecting many torrents and not downloading anything = ghostleeching = ban....
And on TL the americans are getting or used to get letters, too
That would mean two things, either ISP is analyzing traffic for users accessing blacklisted ip addresses of private trackers, or agencies that monitor public torrent also monitor private trackers. I would say it is the first one, in which protocol encryption can help.
Does anyone know what agency would have caught me, I can't remember and I'm curious. I know they were part of the US government and they had an abbreviation. I believe that abbreviation had 4 letters and a W was one of them. Not sure though.
No problems whatsoever for me but I think the porn industry wants my head.
Did you receive more letters from them or just that one ?
Just that one. Since then, I've stopped torrenting all together. :P
Really ? Join an uber leet tracker or something. There's no way they're still onto you.
Lol no dude, I was kidding. I'm torrenting 10 times more now then before.
I did some research, and I believe the agency I got caught by was the International Trade Commission. Sounds familiar, but not sure.
