For sites with huge ammounts of thumbnails (like empornium). Use these 3 addons:

Snap Links Plus - Allows you to select many links at a time and open them in the same window or new window
Web Slide Show Extension - View all images in slideshow from all tabs

Rehost Image - reuploads image to another host, for hot-linking
ImageHost Grabber - Downloads all images from image hosts on a page

A lot of time and effort has been put into finding these as every else you find is crap.

That's a huge list. What's your memory usage and speed like with them?

On 2012, I used Firefox as my main browser and had lots of addons too, but had to quit both habits because the browser would gradually leak memory and slow down over time. It was almost unusable after a week (by freezing for several seconds regularly, and using more than half the 2 GB of RAM I had at the time). I tried all sorts of beta builds and counted the days until Firefox 15, which was supposed to have revolutionary fixes for those problems, would be released. Neither worked... having no bigger worries at the time, I felt so let down.

Anyway, I still use it, but only for casual browsing of sites that don't need to have my real browser fingerprint. Nothing beats all the privacy addons available, and it continues being relevant to me on that regard.

I see things are still the same five years later

I have many more tabs open in Opera, and it's using just 820 MB.

Relative to the last time you used it, it doesn't crash anymore (they had a streak of very buggy versions that year ) and has a lot more addons. It's still fast, light, and decent all around, which is why I switched to it from Firefox 1.5 eleven years ago.

Yes. It's the least memory hungry browser that's still usable today.

How is addon coverage, as opposed to Firefox?

It has a decent selection. I don't use any myself (unless user scripts count), however, because the base browser has enough functionality. For more "advanced" needs, there's Firefox and Chrome, but 90% of my surfing is done with Opera.

But Opera is more closed source than ever. Its supposedly "VPN" is in fact only a proxy, leaking true IP in many circumstances. And if I could trust the first Norwegian devs at the beginning, it's an entire different story since the browser has been sold (more or less) to a shady Chinese firm.

Concerning FF, on a 2007 32 bits PC with 3gb RAM and a poor CPU, I am able to use FF with 78 addons and approx. 50 tabs with no issues. But I restart the browser at least once per day (sometimes twice!). In a privacy point of view, it is not recommended anyway to engage in everlasting browsing sessions. So having to restart my browser one or two times per day is not a bug, it's a privacy feature that some other browsers are cruelly missing.....
