Need to upgrade your copy of NZBEDIT to the latest version? Try http://www.newsgroupdownloaders.com/nzbedit/
Purpose of the software:
Nzbedit is used to edit NZB files. While you can probably edit an NZB file with your favorite text editor just fine, Nzbedit is designed to make the process easier and more self-intuitive. You get a nice GUI interface that shows you all of the various parts of the NZB file and you can point and click and type to your hearts content.
So why do you want to edit a .NZB file -- perhaps you want to remove some of the parts of the file (maybe some extra stuff got stuck in there), or you want to change the author names, or edit the subject lines. Nzbedit includes a search-and-replace feature that lets you change all of the authors or subjects at the same time.
What this software is NOT:
This software is not a downloader or an uploader or a newsreader. If you want something that does downloading, uploading, and reading, then I suggest the excellent Android Newsgroup Downloader.
So what is an NZB file ?
An NZB file is an index of news articles. Many files posted to newsgroups are too large to fit in a single news post, and so the files are fragmented amongst many posts. The creates much grief amongst newsreader clients as they try to piece together these multipart files. Hence, a service called 'newzbin' create the NZB file format as a sort of place to list all of the messages that comprise a multi-part post. You can learn all about NZB files at http://www.newzbin.com/
Okay, so how do you use the damn program ?
You gotta start by using the OPEN button to open an NZB file. When you do that, the file will be displayed in the main window. An NZB file is divided into individual "files" or "sections", and they are all listed on the panel to the left. When you click and item in the lefthand panel, it's contents will be displayed on the righthand panel.
As you can see, each file in the NZB includes all of the following information:
- author
- subject
- date
- list of newsgroups
- list of segments
You can type directly into the author or subject fields to change them, and there are "add" and "delete" buttons for the groups and segments.
