Don't you hate it when a nice freeware program decides not only to go commercial with new versions, but removes all the old freeware versions of the program from sites they control or influence in an attempt to make people use the new payware version? Sure, the newer versions generally have more features, but many times the old freeware version will do what you need with zero impact on your pocketbook - if you could only find a copy.

The Last Freeware Version web site archives the last freeware version of many popular programs that have gone payware. Some examples found on this excellent site:

jv16 Powertools
Regcleaner
PowerArchiver
Mailwasher
Tiny Personal Firewall
Dialog Box Assistant
Hotmail Popper
Aldo's Macro Recorder
SmartFTP
XYplorer

And there are many more. If you are looking for a fairly popular Windows program that used to be free, this site may have the last freeware version. It's worth a look.

Honestly after i had a journey windows to linux to osx to windows to linux i realised that everyone can make their own application. For instance anyone can be angry about this and can make an application and when soneone ask him why you did this? The answer can be "my favorite application went shareware so i decided to make my own and release it free" cause and effect. Here another from me which went to shareware "wrong" way.

PowerArchiver is one of the very rare appz that couldn't be found easily, still it does that job way way better than other archivers.

faststone makes some great apps.

They had faststone capture that used to to be free, though since a few years ago, I also do recall it having gone shareware.

Unless you wanna find a keygen or something for one.
