Nehalem is here.

Anticipation for Intel's latest CPU architecture rivals the intensity for the original Core 2 Duo. It's not just that Nehalem is a new CPU architecture. Intel's new CPU line also brings along with it a new system bus, new chipsets, and a new socket format.

Today, we're mainly focusing on the Core i7 CPU and its performance compared to Intel's Core 2 quad-core CPUs. There's a ton of data to sift through just on CPU performance. We'll have ample opportunity to dive into the platform, and its tweaks, in future articles.

Intel will be launching three new Core i7 products in the next couple of weeks, at 2.66GHz, 2.93GHz, and 3.20GHz, at prices ranging from $285 to $999 (qty. 1,000). That's right: You'll be able to pick up a Core i7 CPU for around $300 fairly soon. Of course, that's not the whole story: You'll need a new motherboard and very likely, new memory, since the integrated memory controller only supports DDR3.

Hm... what about AMDs new Phenom II, can they compete with this one?

Of cause.
In many games the Core i7 is beaten by PhenomII.

That's good new for me, since I'm more of AMD fan then Intel. Now I only need to wait is new Am3 motherboards

I will not touch an Intel Chip, only AMD for me. The AMD Phenom II 3.0 running on a water cool system can over clock to 3.8 no problems.

I'm in love with my new CPU (heck my comp upgrade overall hehe)

damn,I thought that Intel's last CPU was Core 2 Extreme ... now we have Core i7 ... damn that sounds sweet for me,but anyone experienced such a 3.8 overlocked power before ?

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I've overclocked my fair share of CPU's including a couple of the newer ones.

I really don't understand the all-Intel or all-AMD fanboy'ism. Buy what's most cost effective and knowably reliable and be done with it. They're both good brands and I've had good success with both.

I meant, did you ever experience such a long shot like that ?! I've never heard of somebody clocking his/her CPU to a raw power of 3.8 except for that server's CPU that I accidently found on a store running at 6.3

If i overclocked my C2D E6600 2.4ghz to 3.2 with air fan with no problems then its normal to overclock some better cpu with better cooling like water to 3.8ghz.

I7920 is competing with Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 ,the later is less expensive,I tend to buy 920 now
