Portal: Prelude, as its name states it, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees whose work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive. This is why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them in these difficult tasks, but also take responsibility for many other tasks within the complex and compete with Black Mesa's superiority. All employees of the Aperture Science complex are now eagerly awaiting GlaDOS. Maybe even a little too eagerly, as the upcoming events will tell...

Note: this is a legal, unofficial mod.

I have finished Portal myself and it was quite good, so I can't wait to try this mod specially since it has a different story.
It's almost finished downloading (95.6%) here, and the torrent has 229 seeds and 25 peers ATM. :top:

Portal is just awesome. But it was too small. I heard portal 2 will be there next yr.
Got to try this one.

Yes, it's been confirmed by Valve that Portal 2 will be out. They haven't given an exact date, though.

Prelude has just finished downloading here, and it's now installing. It has a lot of content, so installation takes quite a while.

Will have a look at this when I have more time since I really liked Portal.

t has a lot of content
Is it bigger than the original?

Well, it requires Steam and all of Portal's GCFs (it won't work with a release or rip), which add up 4.7GB, so it's not any bigger than the original

I meant the content of the game.

Is there a way to get a "free" version of Portal with which this will work?

Well, the official Portal has 15 normal chambers and 6 advanced chambers. This mod has just 8 chambers and 6 advanced chambers, but also 16 "challenges" the official version doesn't have.
The mod's chambers also are a bit/lot more difficult than the official ones, so this makes up for the smaller amount. :top:

By the looks of it, yes:

Get the official demo (called "the First Slice") off Steam first.
Install the mod, it'll go to <Steam folder>\SteamApps\SourceMods.
Open the gameinfo.txt file located in the portal prelude folder inside the directory I've mentioned in step 2, and change the line that reads:

SteamAppId 400
to

SteamAppId 410

According some comments I've seen, the mod should run correctly using the demo's data files. I haven't tested this since I've already "bought" Portal...
