@Snitlev
WOW really impressive ong bak 2 trailer
1. fearless
2.ong bak
3.kiss of the dragon
i love also scene in first matrix (neo vs Morpheus)
I will say Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagles Shadow by Jackie, Jet Li's Fist of Legend, Once Upon A Time In China and Enter The Dragon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZKOr0qRb_I
Die Handlung ist viel zu billig gestrickt, aber die reinen Kampfscenen inkl. der Choreogarphien sind sehenswert.
Ist halt ein B-Movie aber die Kämpfe sind gut.
Never Surrender (2009) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1307989/)
gibts übrings schon auf vielen trackern ;-)

Fist of Legend
Fearless

ninja (2009) . i dont mean ninja assassin. just search imdb.
edit: IPMAN was the best Fighting Movie in 2009 !
'Fighting' is also a good movie.
After that the usual golden stuff like
mortal kombat
the kickboxer
ong bak
revenge of the warrior
under control,
jackie chan ist nobody,
rumble in the bronx,
Armour of God (1+2),
Powerman
Bloodsport
Best of the Best
Kiss of the dragon,
Romeo must die
First strike
the one
such old school movies getting rarer,
look at hollywood nobody is able to fight.
Also japanese stuff is getting worse.
There is a misunderstanding:
Fearless --->edit : not sick movie... i mean Unleashed was the sick one... :stupid:

There is a misunderstanding:
Fearless ---> sick movie.
"sick" as in good? or
sick as in perverse?
I thought it was an excellent movie, realistic fghting great cinematography, story line was great. Its hard to find flaw in it for me anyway.
[edit]
well no movie is perfect if I were t find flaw in Fearless it would have to have been It Was Too Short!

+1 for IPMAN 2, but cant watch it these days..
btw, ong bak 2 is crap, instead revenge of the warrior should be called the real ong bak 2.
edit: in a previous post I mixed up fearless with unleashed.
fearless--> good, :-)
unleashed--> not so good.

This thread is totally lacking Hero. While it has a lot of PR China propaganda in its themes (unity of china and simplifying the language, obedience to the ruler...) it has some of the most artful fight scenes I have yet seen.
Also House of Flying Daggers for general choreography.

Personally, I don't like movies like hero or tiger & dragon.
It is some kind of non-realistic and more like a fantasy-movie rather than a good martial-arts movie.
If you know that the fighting is not real, than what's the big deal ? ;)
i see a lot of recent 'mainstream' movies mentioned, yet there are older ones, before the wire-work-craze, when actors actually had to have formidable martial arts skills (unlike many recent wannabes) and where fighting scenes were more challenging (as opposed to today when we get hundreds of cut-scenes), basically whereas before martial arts skill was of primary concern, nowadays its the visual element being focused on (some would say 'sold as skill')
to see how it was done before watch for example:
The 36th Chamber of the Shaolin (aka Shaolin Master Killer) (1978) with Gordon Liu
or for more comedy:
The Magnificent Butcher (1979) with Samo Hung
and btw avoid those dubbed versions like the plague, they will ruin the atmosphere & originality
saebrtooth
26.05.10, 01:28
And how about Shaolin Vs Ninja by Gordon Liu, but wasnt as epic as The 36th Chamber of the Shaolin. Yes I would place the latter in this threads category too

i also like american shaolin. true story.
Extraterrestrial

I like crank if you consider it a fighter movie :

Yeah, that's so damn true.
JCVD-Movies are really impressive and his fighting style is very unique.
His movies are on the same fighting-skills-level like Jackie Chan's.
Good ones (there are more):
*Bloodsport
*Kickboxer
*No Retreat No Surrender
*The Quest
*Timecop
*Double Team
*Street Fighter

True Legend (2010) is also good :). It has the same producer and action choreographer from Fearless
Born to Fight
It's from the same guys who gave us Ong Bak series. Hence pretty much the same.Nevertheless worth a watch.

Watch Jackie Chan's stuff and u can hear the differnet degree of impact of the hits

I like also to hear the (extended) sound of the impact, but sometimes movies differ between realism and fiction.

Danke, für den Tipp.
Watched it, [was in my collection, didn't knew that.. ].
Its pretty cool, and the trainer of the guy is also cool.
I think he was the bad guy in 'Lord of War'.
Overall worth watching, thanks again. :smilie_switch:
Viewers should keep in mind that this is not a classic fighting movie, its just specified on mma-sports.

a good martial Film is Tekken, the story is simple but the actors plays good and Fans for this genre are enjoyed :-)

Thats a good thing, but martial arts never really waned. As far as I can see most fighting in movies uses martial arts
tokiodrift1
10.09.10, 03:21
Yeah, you're right, but these fightings differ from each other.
Usually Hollywood-Fighting movies are which are actually Action-Movies (not Martial Arts-Specific), are using very basic stuff and also a lot of computer crap stuff.
However, there are also movies which are real Martial Arts movies, but nowadays they're also using sometimes special effects.
But you can see the difference in the way the actor is doing a kick or jump kick. A Martial Arts Specialists will be able to let it show as natural, instead of artificial.
saebrtooth
10.09.10, 03:31
well thats tru that Hollywood dont use much hard core martial arts, I would love to see more of that stuff but then I think there are only a few well known out there that can do the moves and are big draw cards
tokiodrift1
10.09.10, 03:35
I am sure that there are more martial artists than people expect, but sometimes they've lack of acting experience.
In HongKong/Japan/Korea/China/Thailand, its the other way: There are a lots of martial artists which learn acting while shooting the movies.
As mister Jackie Chan once said, Hollywood is all about dialogues n' dialogues, in Asia it's all about Action (regarding to Action-Movies with Martial Arts Content).
saebrtooth
10.09.10, 03:36
but sometimes they've lack of acting experience.
yup thats partly what I mean by big draw card
I watch a lot of asian particularily martial arts stuff, the fighting is just so much better than average candy hollywood types
tokiodrift1
10.09.10, 03:38
Okay, I was not sure what a big draw card is..., but thanks for clarifying
saebrtooth
10.09.10, 03:48
sorry my phrasing was not that good
good acting and well known (big draw cards)
tokiodrift1
10.09.10, 03:58
Now you're phrasing is officially pimped...^^

First Mortal Kombat, then Tekken, ..What next ?
karate kid, ong bak 3
as if it matters, none of these remakes/sequels were worth watching, the dilettantism/incompetence/sterility displayed in all of them is almost unbelievable, a good indicator of the current overall filmmaking crisis/lows
Hollywood dont use much hard core martial arts,
and they won't in the future either, its way too limiting visually and not even necessary - nowadays they just need an average stuntman with superficial martial arts skills/moves, some heavy computer editing, slow-motions, zooms, and whathaveyou, to deliver a supernatural/exaggerated illusion of skills/abilities, whereas the main actor may just as well be almost a complete n00b at it, yet famous/recognizable in appearance - it all becomes focused on the appearance, the superficial, the shallow, the visually exciting, leaving a gaping hollow interior with no substance or depth worth mentioning - a mere technological wankery for the new generations of virtual-reality addicts
As mister Jackie Chan once said, Hollywood is all about dialogues n' dialogues, in Asia it's all about Action
i wouldn't be so sure about that, it could be said though that asian movies like their fighting scenes to be longer and more elaborate
