The PlayStation 3 continues to evolve with each firmware update, but not every update can be as exciting as, say, version 2.4 was. With little notice, the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update, version 2.42, has snuck out. What exactly the update does, though, remains to be seen.
There isn't much information on what the firmware update includes. The official word from Sony, spilled on the company's blog, states that the update "improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software." Upon testing the update, it seems like the interface has gotten a little zippier and trophies are loading faster, but little else is outwardly noticeable.
