Ever wonder when your copy of Windows was installed? Me neither.

But, today I was poking around in the registry and stumbled across this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\InstallDate

Which is a dword value holding the number of seconds since that fateful day you reinstalled windows last.
(Actually, an offset from 12 midnight, 1/1/1970.)

So naturally I had to write a little applet to pull the value and display it in an easy-to-read format. As a bonus, you get a real-time update, for those of us with compulsive disorders.

useful if you re-install or try new windows versions/editions frequently. you can know for how long you've had your current one... we could also post screens of this to see who has had windows xp installed for the longest time, here's mine :

had to reboot because a windows update overwrote my TCPIP.SYS, otherwise my uptime would be 6-8 hours :cool2:

OK zat, almost 14 hours, you win... According Wikipedia the biggest confirmed uptime ever is 11 years, 303 days, 20 hours and 57 minutes, from a computer running OpenVMS... don't think we can beat that but let's see how close we get hehe

Here's mine.
Seems like there went something wrong with the install date.
But the other thing could be correct.

Cheater, you set InstallDate=0
No, I didn't.
I think that's because of my Vista "Activation Patch".

And 4 days uptime pwns me
Well, I only reboot if needed.
Otherwise I use the Standy Function.

Cheater patch  Well, if we learn the value's syntaxis, we can help you put the (more or less) correct date there

No hibernation?

No need for this, I don't care about my install date.

No hibernation?
No, I don't like hibernation.
After booting out of hibernation my PC is that slow.

Now I'm the best :cool2:

It's shoulder's InstallDate -1 second... beat that! If you're wondering how I did it...

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/6346/fffffffftl4.gif

I guess the biggest value possible for a DWORD (that one) makes the date "re-cycle" or something like that, and start at -1...

Just to "see" it, because it'll never be true  Are you really going to do it, btw? :top: If so, make sure you "backup" the original value
