Miranda IM is a multi protocol instant messenger client for Windows. Miranda IM uses very little memory and is extremely fast. It requires no installation and can be fitted on a single floppy disc. Its powerful plugin system makes Miranda IM very flexible. Only the most basic features are built in, but there are currently more than 350 free plugins available for download that allows users to extend the functionality of Miranda IM.

- Safer port opening for incoming connections
- Language pack translations did not always translate correctly

This is what i personally use for msn+icq+irc. Fully customizable, many and many addons/plugins (firefox users im sure will like it)

One IMPORTANT thing that makes it better than the other alternatives is that it uses p2p protocol between the peers when you want to send/receive file. Most of the alternatives dont have that and try to use the protocol for messaging, and in result you see poor file transfer speeds.
