I just watched "BLACK BIRD aka IN WITH THE DEVIL" and some reviewers compared it to "mindhunter". I didn't know the series and thought, "how can a series compare to BLACK BIRD?" because I thought it was pretty good. Now after watching the 1+2 season I can say that MINDHUNTER is much better than BLACK BIRD.

The series MINDHUNTER is underrated because they had plans for 5 seasons and had to take a forced break because nobody watched the series, although the ratings are very high.

IF you didn't see any of these two shows, you better put them on your watch list. You will not be disappointed.

I don't think Fringe qualifies as underrated since it was popular at the time, although some criticized it for being "a clone of The X-Files". Personally, I liked both.

But most of them were not so much underrated. It's harder to find rarities in series than movies due to the format.

Well, the overall structure of both series was fairly close: investigating a different supernatural incident on each episode while a bigger story arc unfolded in parallel.

Three other ones I can add to the list are Gun, Dead Like Me, and John Doe (with Lincoln Burrows as protagonist!).

I remember Grimm being the same with the crime incident on each episode while a bigger story arc unfolded in parallel. However, the supernatural here were Wesen or animals within human beings.
